Why Martha Stewart Crashed Kate Mara’s Birthday Party

Kate Mara’s birthday celebration had an unexpected guest.

The actress from Imperfect Women shared that she planned to celebrate her birthday by watching Wuthering Heights with a small group of five friends at a local theater. She was surprised and delighted when Martha Stewart unexpectedly joined them.

Kate, 43, shared a story on the March 17th episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers: On her birthday, she received an email from a theater explaining a mix-up. A new employee had received a call from Martha Stewart’s assistant, who requested a private rental of the theater that night so Martha could watch Wuthering Heights.

She went on to explain that the new employee was unaware of the procedure. They were then told that Kate Mara had already reserved it. Afterwards, someone mentioned Martha might call, and she briefly hoped it would be a birthday greeting.

Kate, who has a daughter born in 2019 and a son born in 2022 with her husband Jamie Bell, shared that the lifestyle expert contacted her through her mother instead.

My mom received an email from Martha – they’re friends – and it asked if it was okay for her and her banker, Jane, to attend my birthday party. Apparently, they’d heard I’d rented out a theater to watch Wuthering Heights and were hoping they could ‘crash’ it and sit in the back. The email said to ignore it if it was too much to ask.

Kate was thrilled to invite two friends to join her in watching the movie adaptation of Emily Brontë’s novel, starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie. She happily agreed when they asked, saying, “I immediately said yes, and they were able to come!”

Unfortunately, Kate’s friend didn’t manage to take a picture to remember her spontaneous movie date with Martha.

She said with a touch of humor, “They were so sneaky about it – they only took a picture of us and left Martha and Jane out.”
