Dario Scardapane, the showrunner for the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, has spoken about a potentially divisive decision regarding how Jessica Jones (played by Krysten Ritter) will return.
Viewers have been eager to see this character return ever since her Netflix show ended in 2019. Some parts of her story have since been incorporated into the Marvel shows on Disney+.
Fans will have to wait a bit longer to see her, as Jessica Jones, the tough private investigator and crime fighter, isn’t featured much in the beginning of Daredevil: Born Again’s second season.
While this creative decision might not appeal to everyone, showrunner Dario Scardapane explained to TopMob that getting the return just right was crucial.
He explained that introducing Jessica Jones felt essential to the narrative. With vigilantes being targeted, he wanted to explore how one would react to becoming the hunted.
Scardapane explained that viewers who finished episode 4 likely have a good understanding of the plot. They had to reach a specific point in the story before it would feel natural to introduce the character Jessica.
Season 2 of Born Again returns to New York City, where the powerful and ruthless Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio), is still in control.
Despite maintaining a polished public persona, Wilson Fisk still holds onto his resentments. At the end of the first season, he established a task force specifically to control vigilantes like Jessica Jones and Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox).
Jessica Jones is considered one of the strongest heroes operating on a more personal, ‘street-level’ scale within the Marvel universe. However, her Netflix show didn’t always showcase that power, often focusing on her using strength for simpler tasks like breaking through doors and locks.

Nick Scardapane, a former creative on Netflix’s The Punisher, has shared that the new Born Again series has a bigger budget than The Punisher. The question now is whether that extra funding will translate into more visually impressive abilities for Jessica Jones.
According to executive producer Sana Amanat, ‘Born Again’ feels more realistic and connected to the real world. This was a deliberate choice; they’re aiming for a story that doesn’t rely on flashy magic or superpowers.
Amanat also hinted at exciting developments for Jessica Jones, including a deeper look at the specifics of her powers and how they work within the stories.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really excited about Daredevil: Born Again! It’s the second live-action show we’re getting this year, after Wonder Man dropped in January. And honestly, I’m counting down the days until Spider-Man: Brand New Day comes out this summer, though Marvel’s keeping that one totally under wraps right now.
Okay, fellow Marvel fans, mark your calendars! I just heard that Daredevil: Born Again is hitting Disney+ in the UK on Wednesday, March 25th, 2026. If you’re not already subscribed, you can sign up for Disney+ for as little as £5.99 a month – definitely worth it to catch this one!
