Invincible Season 4 Makes Major Change to Omni-Man From The Comics

The first three episodes of Invincible season four are now available, and as expected, Nolan Grayson (Omniman) is central to the upcoming Viltrumite War. While last season saw Omniman, voiced by J.K. Simmons, aligning with Allen the Alien after a change of heart, the show has largely followed the comic book’s storyline. However, the second episode of this season, “I’ll Give You The Grand Tour,” significantly expands on Nolan’s past, revealing much more about Viltrumite culture and how Omniman contributed to their desire for domination.

Please be aware that this discussion contains spoilers for the first three episodes of Invincible season four. Episode two introduces a new aspect of Viltrumite culture not found in the original comics: a brutal coming-of-age ritual. Viltrumites must battle their parents, who attempt to kill them, to reach adulthood. We finally meet Nolan’s parents in this episode – characters who were never shown in the comics. If you’re interested in watching this scene, Amazon has released it online.

The Viltrumite Empire’s Dark Secret

This flashback helped us understand how the Viltrumite Empire functions, revealing that each member faces a unique and challenging test. However, the most important part of the scene centers around the “Scourge Virus.” This virus nearly wiped out the entire Viltrumite race, with only a small number surviving. Despite being severely weakened by the virus, the remaining powerful Viltrumites still pose a significant threat to the Coalition of Planets. Now, Nolan is working to gather a team to finally defeat his old allies.

The animated series Invincible isn’t just exploring Viltrum’s history differently than the comics – it’s also adding completely new storylines. According to creator Robert Kirkman, who is heavily involved in the Amazon show, season four will introduce a brand-new plot. As hinted at in the season three finale, Damien Darkblood is facing a major issue in the underworld, and Mark Grayson will soon be drawn into it. While Damien had a smaller part in the original comics, Kirkman intends to expand his role in the animated series. Fans can expect this new storyline, which hasn’t appeared in the first three seasons, to be a unique and challenging adventure for Mark.
