Sitcoms have always been a hit with audiences, but the 1990s were truly special. After the classic sitcoms of the 1950s and the many shows of the 1970s, the ‘90s brought a new wave of incredibly popular comedies, often centered around groups of friends simply hanging out. This decade gave us some of the most memorable shows ever, and many of those beloved ‘90s sitcoms are now available to stream on platforms like Hulu.
Okay, fellow TV lovers, you NEED to know – all six seasons of The Nanny just landed on Hulu! Seriously, I was thrilled. For those who might not remember, this show originally ran on CBS from 1993 to 1999 and has 146 episodes. It stars Fran Drescher as Fran Fine, this super fun, fashionable woman from Queens who ends up as the nanny for a Broadway producer’s kids. The cast is amazing too – Charles Shaughnessy, Daniel Davis, Lauren Lane, and the adorable Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury, and Madeline Zima are all in it. It’s a classic!
The Nanny Is a Quintessential Will-They/Won’t-They Sitcom That Still Holds Up
It’s amazing to think it’s been nearly 30 years since The Nanny ended its six-season run on CBS. Even now, the show remains one of the most popular and fashionable sitcoms of the 1990s. The Nanny is incredibly engaging from the beginning, drawing you into the developing romance between Fran and Maxwell. The chemistry between Fran Drescher and Charles Shaughnessy, combined with the way their characters were so different yet attracted to each other, created a captivating and emotional connection that made them one of the most memorable couples on 90s television.
Even decades after it first aired, The Nanny remains a beloved sitcom, and it’s more than just a classic romantic comedy. The show expertly mixes a sweet, unfolding love story with consistent humor, thanks to its clever writing, quick jokes, and recurring gags. It’s also a major fashion icon of the ‘90s, showcasing Fran’s unforgettable and trendsetting designer wardrobe that perfectly captured the decade’s bold style. With a solid 73% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes across six seasons, The Nanny has become a comforting and nostalgic favorite, offering great fashion, over-the-top humor, and relatable family moments. It’s a consistently enjoyable show that still feels modern and relevant today.
What’s New on Hulu?
