The new horror film, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, is now playing in theaters, and it lives up to the promise of the original 2019 movie. Like Halloween and Halloween II, the story picks up right where the first film left off, creating a seamless continuation. The sequel expands on the mythology of the devil cult featured in the series, delivers another strong performance from Samara Weaving, and introduces a compelling new cast of characters, making it a worthwhile addition to the franchise.
Similar to the first movie, this film is a fast-paced, violent blend of dark humor and horror. But where do the events take Grace MacCaullay (Weaving) and her sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton)? And could this be the final installment in a planned trilogy? Let’s dive in and see.
Does Ready or Not 2: Here I Come Directly Lead to a Third Film?

Simply put, the series ends definitively. Unlike many franchises, this one knows when to conclude its story. By the film’s end, all the families vying for the throne that Grace rightfully deserves are gone. Only Grace, her sister Faith, and the lawyer who helped them, played by Elijah Wood, remain alive and relatively unharmed.
Grace and Faith succeed through a clever deception. Around the middle of the movie, Olivia Cheng’s character, Wan Chen Xing, tells them that if Grace marries her son, the entire game will end immediately. Wan Chen Xing would then control the world, and Grace would be spared—though it would come at a cost. She’d have to become part of a devil-worshipping cult and forfeit her soul to Satan, but she would at least survive.
Grace is reluctant, but when her sister’s life is threatened by Titus Danforth, she surprisingly offers him a deal. The scene then jumps to their wedding, though not before a brief, almost sweet moment between Grace and Ursula Danforth—a moment quickly shattered when Titus violently kills his sister.
The surviving members of the cult assembled around a pit at the wedding, all wearing robes and anticipating the sacrifice of a goat, which would be thrown into the pit already filled with decaying animal remains. However, once Grace and Titus were married, Grace stabbed Titus multiple times in the throat, and Faith then kicked him into the pit.
Grace is safe because the cult’s rules don’t prohibit killing one’s own family – only harming outsiders. This lack of a rule unexpectedly makes her the cult leader, a position she rejects, along with any connection to Satan. To resolve the situation, she throws the ring into a pit, causing all the cult members to jump in and fight each other to the death. A rule stating that no one can be wearing the ring at dawn ensures that everyone dies, fulfilling the consequence.
Despite marrying Titus, Grace isn’t involved with the cult. The goat is safe and sound, and no sacrifices took place. Grace releases the goat, and she, her sister, and the animal leave the Danforth estate, determined to stay connected in the future.
It felt like a definitive ending – the continuation of Grace’s game of hide and seek was finally over. The devil cult was destroyed, with only the lawyer remaining. Surprisingly, the lawyer wasn’t angry to see Grace and Faith leave; he was actually smiling. They even glimpsed the ghost of Mr. Le Bail, who appeared more approving than vengeful.
Ultimately, Here I Come delivers a solid conclusion to Grace’s story. She achieves a happy ending, the cult is defeated, and she reconnects with her sister. However, given this is a Hollywood production, a third movie could happen if the sequel performs exceptionally well at the box office, exceeding its projected $14 million worldwide earnings.
It’s unlikely we’ll see a sequel to Ready or Not beyond the recently released second film. Samara Weaving, who starred in the original, has moved on to other projects, including becoming a mother. The directors, Radio Silence, are also committed to a new Mummy movie with Brendan Fraser. For now, Ready or Not 2 feels like a great follow-up to the first film, but not part of a larger series.
