With the Winter 2026 anime season wrapping up, a surprisingly strange new series began airing this week. After being announced in 2024, Rooster Fighter finally premiered on Sunday, March 15th, and it’s as wonderfully weird as fans anticipated. Produced by Sanzigen, the anime follows Keiji, a traveling rooster who journeys across Japan to fight off demons and save the world.
I have to say, this anime has a really interesting setup – a rooster is presented as humanity’s ultimate protector, and what’s amazing is how completely straight-faced it plays that idea. The main character, Keiji, feels like a true hero, fitting perfectly into the classic shonen mold. Honestly, there were moments I almost forgot he was a rooster! His actions and words felt genuinely heroic, and Kenta Miyake’s voice work – you might recognize him as All Might – really brought that to life. But the series doesn’t take itself too seriously either. It leans into the silliness, and sometimes it reminded me a lot of One-Punch Man with its wild, unpredictable energy.
Rooster Fighter Anime Blends Serious My Hero Academia Tropes With Unhinged One-Punch Man Elements

Though Rooster Fighter clearly draws inspiration from action anime like My Hero Academia, it’s a surprisingly silly show, similar to One-Punch Man. Just like watching Saitama defeat enemies with one punch, seeing a rooster battle and win against massive monsters is completely over-the-top. However, Rooster Fighter takes things even further by adding mature themes that somehow enhance the humor. Despite its short episodes, the series is consistently funny and entertaining.
Unlike Saitama, the first episode of Rooster Fighter immediately gives its main character a tragic backstory, making his quest for revenge feel genuinely emotional. However, the show’s most appealing quality remains its wild, over-the-top humor, often delivered through parody – the first episode even includes a clear nod to Goku’s Kamehameha attack. It’s safe to say future episodes will continue this trend, making the series even more chaotic as the story unfolds. With solid animation, classic hero themes, and smart parody, Rooster Fighter is becoming one of the most delightfully unhinged anime in recent years, and it’s definitely worth watching.
