10 Years Later, Crunchyroll Is Finally Streaming One of The Best Films of All Time

Crunchyroll, which started in 2017, has quickly become the most popular streaming service for anime fans worldwide. It offers a huge selection of anime, with new series added every week. Each season, Crunchyroll announces its upcoming anime releases, including when subtitled and dubbed versions will be available. While many anime fans use Crunchyroll to discover and watch shows, the platform doesn’t have every anime available. Due to licensing and popularity, Crunchyroll regularly updates its library, adding new titles and removing others.

Crunchyroll announced on March 20, 2026, that the critically acclaimed film A Silent Voice, produced by Kyoto Animation, is now available to stream. Viewers can watch the film in Japanese, Spanish, German, Italian, and Castilian Spanish. Because many anime fans prefer the original Japanese audio, subtitles are offered in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, and Castilian Spanish. Crunchyroll notes that the film’s availability varies by region, and it is currently streaming in the United States and Canada.

What Is A Silent Voice About?

Naoko Yamada’s beautiful film explores difficult topics like guilt, forgiveness, and finding redemption. The story follows Shoya Ishida, who is haunted by something he did as a child: relentlessly bullying Shoko Nishimiya, a girl who is deaf. After Shoko is forced to transfer schools due to the bullying, Shoya finds himself alone when his friends blame him for everything. Years later, struggling with intense guilt and social anxiety, Shoya begins a journey to make amends.

He finds Shoko to apologize and tries to fix things. To his relief, she accepts, and they begin to rebuild their friendship, both dealing with past hurts. He discovers that Shoko still struggles with feeling good enough after everything she’s been through. The movie centers on the emotional weight they both carry, showing them being open and working towards healing. Shoya’s difficult journey to make things right and Shoko’s journey to accept herself come together in a deeply moving ending, emphasizing how important it is to connect with others.

This movie is adapted from Yoshitoki Ooiama’s popular manga, which originally ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2013 to 2014 and was collected into seven volumes. The film follows the main story of the manga, but it’s been shortened and some subplots and character backgrounds have been removed to fit the movie’s length. Before becoming available on Crunchyroll, the film streamed on Prime Video and was also offered on Netflix in several Asian countries and other regions.
