The new Miami Vice film….
The 1980s TV show Miami Vice was incredibly impactful, launching the careers of its stars and setting a new standard for style with its distinctive look, from the lighting and set design to the clothes and music. The show ran from 1984 to 1989 and was followed by a film in 2006 starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, directed by the original TV series’ creator, Michael Mann. That film earned $163.7 million worldwide. Now, two decades later, a new Miami Vice movie – a reboot, remake, or reimagining – is in the works, and here’s the latest information about it.
What we know about the new Miami Vice film…
- The film will start Michael B Jordan and Austin Butler
- Since winning his Oscar for ‘Sinners’ it is rumoured that Jordan’s people have demanded his salary be doubled to $18m
- The film will be directed by Joseph Kosinski who helmed the Oscar nominated ‘FI’ and ‘Top Gun Maverick’
- Kosinski is trying to persuade Tom Cruise to take the role of the villain – having not played a villain since Michael Mann’s ‘Collateral’.
- Kosinski will film the movie for Imax, much as he did with F1 and Top Gun, in order to enhance the sights and sounds of the iconic series.
- The film has been written by Dan Gilroy (Kong :Skull Island) , Eric Warren Singer (Top Gun Maverick) and Anthony Yerkovich (Miami Vice 2006)
- The film will be inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series
- It is set for a release date of 6th August 2027
