Although gameplay of Crimson Desert looks great, especially regarding its vast world and action, the mount system is surprisingly limited. You always have a horse, but other mounts aren’t permanently yours. Even the dragon mount, once unlocked, has a significant restriction: you can only ride it for 15 minutes before needing to wait a full 50 minutes to use it again, according to IGN.
Honestly, a lot of players are pretty upset about this, and I get why! It’s especially frustrating because dragon riding was such a big focus in all the previews and gameplay we saw. Plus, it takes a lot of work to actually unlock – you have to finish the main story first! All that effort just makes the reward feel… kind of disappointing, which is a shame because dragon riding itself is really fun. It feels like they built up something amazing, but then limited it in a way that doesn’t quite deliver.
One player expressed disappointment that the dragon, heavily featured in trailers, ended up being used infrequently in the game. They noted that the marketing suggested the dragon would be a permanent, late-game mount, not just a temporary summon.
One player complained that the unlock for this feature comes very late in the game and has frustrating restrictions, including a time limit and a 50-minute cooldown before you can use it again. They questioned the logic of balancing a single-player game, arguing that if someone wants to be incredibly powerful, the game shouldn’t limit them, especially considering players paid for the experience. They pointed out that using the powerful feature doesn’t affect other players and expressed disappointment that the developers didn’t follow through on promises to let players feel overpowered, calling it a misleading claim.
I’ve been seeing a lot of players, myself included, hoping Pearl Abyss will make the non-horse mounts permanent! It would be so cool to have options beyond horses – things like Dire Wolves or Raptors would be amazing. One player put it perfectly: we really want creature mounts that we can keep in our stables and summon whenever we want. I hope the developers are listening!
Pearl Abyss, the game studio behind Crimson Desert, has been listening to player feedback. After many players pointed out the limited inventory space, they released an update that added a storage box and significantly increased how much players can carry. The update also included other helpful changes, like more fast travel points using Abyss Nexuses and easier-to-spot ore deposits.
