Top 10 Steam Game Is Free and Incredibly Addictive

At ComicBook, we keep a close eye on Steam Charts, which shows the most popular games on the platform. It’s no surprise that Counter-Strike 2 is currently number one, alongside other expected titles like PUBG: Battlegrounds, Dota 2, and Apex Legends. Interestingly, at number eight, you won’t find a new battle royale game or even the recently released Early Access title Slay the Spire II (which is at number four). Instead, you’ll find Bongo Cat.

The Steam Chart ranks the 100 most popular games, and surprisingly, a free game called Bongo Cat consistently attracts around 250,000 daily players. I’m actually playing it right now while writing this! It’s surprisingly fun, even though it’s a simple app that just runs in the background. Bongo Cat isn’t really a game you play so much as a cute and addictive little program that makes whatever you’re doing more enjoyable. It’s just an animated cat tapping its paws, but it’s hard to look away!

Bongo Cat Is the 8th Most-Played Game on Steam

Okay, so you’re probably wondering what Bongo Cat even is. Basically, the developers say this little kitty needs our help getting more hats! It’s a super simple game – every time I press a key, the cat playfully ‘punches’ my taskbar. I earn points just by typing, clicking, or even playing other games! The main goal is to unlock all the hats. It’s a small download, under 600MB, and once I launch it, a cute cat appears and starts drumming on the bongos right on my taskbar. It’s actually pretty neat because it also shows me how many characters I’m typing, which is a nice little bonus!

It’s strangely satisfying to watch the number keep increasing and get those little achievement notifications. I’m starting to wonder how much I need to play the bongos to unlock some fun hats! The Steam trailer for Bongo Cat makes it clear the game is all about collecting different cosmetic items, and there seem to be a ton of them available. As of today, it already has over 23,000 ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews on Steam, which is pretty amazing for a little animation that sits on your screen. And if you click the cat, it says “Meow Meow” – which, honestly, feels just right.

As you browse the in-game store, it’s clear that getting really rare items is tough. Most of the time, you’ll find common items (90%), with uncommon items appearing fairly often too (9.5%). Rare items are much harder to get (0.49%), epic items are incredibly rare (0.01%), and legendary items have a 1 in 500,000 chance of dropping. I’m not sure what these items actually are yet, other than different kinds of hats, but as soon as I unlock some, I plan on dressing up my cute kitty with everything I find, as often as possible! The store also mentions that the game’s art style is inspired by @StrayRogue.

Bongo Cat Is Incredibly Addictive

Bongo Cat is the ultimate relaxing game. You literally just use your computer as normal while an adorable animated cat plays the bongos! It responds to your mouse clicks, so it doesn’t matter what you’re doing – browsing the internet or even writing a dissertation – the cat keeps drumming. I’m currently hooked on this surprisingly popular game on Steam and determined to unlock a rare item, hoping for the even rarer legendary drop to keep me playing.
