If you’ve been playing Marathon, you might have had a chance to test out Cryo Archive over the weekend – it’s a large, challenging endgame mode similar to a raid. However, it had some pretty strict requirements, so you may not have been able to access it.
Cryo Archive is a challenging game mode for committed players of the sci-fi extraction shooter. To access it, you’ll need to reach level 25, unlock all the game’s factions, and have a loadout valued at 5,000 credits or more.
Plus, this game mode is only available on weekends, and it requires a team of three players to play.
Right now, only some Marathon players can try out the Cryo Archive. It’s difficult for anyone who can’t play on weekends or doesn’t have a group to play with to experience it as it’s currently designed.
Fortunately, Bungie is paying attention.
In a social media post, Marathon’s game director, Joe Ziegler, addressed issues players are having accessing the game’s main endgame content, pinpointing specific areas causing problems.
The team is closely monitoring and considering all the feedback about Cryo Archive, and they’ve identified a few key areas for improvement.
We’re adding features like the ability to play by yourself, choices for players who aren’t available on weekends, and a better chance of getting useful items from vaults.
Ziegler acknowledges these issues might take time to resolve and quick fixes aren’t guaranteed, but the team will discuss them this week.
As a fan, this whole thing feels a lot like the early days of Destiny raids. Remember how tough those were to get into at first, because you needed a specific group or certain gear? It has that same vibe, like it’s not quite open to everyone right away.
