Few hero teams truly live up to the ideal quite like the Power Rangers. Whether you look at any season or version of the show, the Rangers consistently demonstrate qualities like kindness, loyalty, and courage. However, they’re still people, and even the most stable individuals have their limits. This was the case for one of the franchise’s most beloved Pink Rangers 24 years ago.
As a huge Power Rangers fan, I still remember watching “Jen’s Revenge,” the eighth episode of Power Rangers Time Force, when it first aired on March 24th, 2001. It’s a really powerful and honestly, pretty dark episode, especially for the whole series. It focuses on Jen, the Pink Ranger, dealing with the pain of losing Alex, her fiancé. There’s this intense scene where she almost shoots a monster at close range, but thankfully, the other Rangers manage to stop her. It’s a tough watch, but it really shows the emotional depth they were willing to explore. You can check out the full episode in the video below.
Power Rangers Time Force Dove Into Heavy Topics, But With The Silliest Monster
“Jen’s Revenge” focuses on a fan-favorite Ranger and explores some more serious emotional issues. Jen is still grieving the loss of her fiancé, and when the team encounters a bounty hunter they previously faced in the future, it brings up painful memories of Alex and pushes her to her limit. While the story deals with these heavy themes, the villain—a monster named Fatcatfish—is surprisingly silly, which slightly detracts from the overall intensity.
As a Power Rangers fan, I’ve always admired Jen Scotts – she’s already incredibly determined and laser-focused. But in this particular moment, that drive really explodes, and it has big consequences. She actually takes the initiative and attacks Ransik and Frax, managing to take down his Cyclobots. However, she gets hurt in the fight with Ransik himself, and honestly, she’s lucky it wasn’t worse, because Ransik wasn’t exactly at his peak health at the time!
Jen is seriously injured and unconscious when the Rangers discover her, bringing her back to headquarters. Even when we see her again, she’s still hurt, but that doesn’t stop her from pursuing Fatcatfish. This time, she aims her weapon directly at his face, ready to fire at close range – a surprisingly intense move even for a dramatic Power Rangers storyline. Luckily, her teammates stop her before Fatcatfish is completely destroyed.
Despite ultimately defeating him, the villain isn’t killed – instead, he’s frozen in cryo-sleep. The episode powerfully demonstrates that even heroes have limits, and highlights the strength it takes to remain calm and avoid stooping to your opponent’s level. It’s definitely a worthwhile watch.
