Fans of Harry Potter have gotten their first glimpse of the new TV series, and a short preview trailer is coming very soon.
A new image from the upcoming HBO series, a fresh take on JK Rowling’s books, reveals Dominic McLaughlin as the young wizard, dressed in red robes and walking with his broomstick toward the Quidditch pitch at Hogwarts.
He looked up to see Gryffindor and Hufflepuff banners waving, alongside a poster featuring Fred and George Weasley. Light snow was falling on the Hogwarts grounds.
The official Harry Potter social media pages posted a picture and revealed that a short preview video will be released on March 25th.
Joining the cast, Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton will be Hermione Granger. John Lithgow will portray Professor Albus Dumbledore, alongside Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

The new series will bring back characters who didn’t make it into the original movies, like Professor Cuthbert Binns, portrayed by Richard Durden, and the mischievous poltergeist Peeves. They haven’t yet announced who will play Peeves.
Chris Columbus, the director of the first two films, previously shared with TopMob his ideas for future installments, mentioning details from the books that weren’t included in the original movies.
He explained that even with films exceeding two and a half hours, they had to cut a lot of content. He admitted it still bothers him, sometimes keeping him awake at night.
Specifically, he shared: “I missed the fact that I was never able to put Peeves in the first film.”
JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, has received criticism for her opinions on transgender rights. In 2020, she published an extensive essay explaining her views on sex and gender, which was challenged and refuted by LGBTQ+ organizations like Stonewall.
J.K. Rowling has expressed her opinions on social media, most recently in a 2024 post on X (formerly Twitter). In that post, she stated that she does not believe in the concept of transgender children and argued against the idea that someone’s gender identity at birth doesn’t match their body.
In May 2025, J.K. Rowling created the JK Rowling Women’s Fund to provide financial support for legal battles aimed at protecting women’s rights as defined by biological sex.
The main actors from the Harry Potter films – Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson – have spoken out against J.K. Rowling’s views and expressed support for the transgender community. However, some other cast members, like Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, and Jim Broadbent, have come to Rowling’s defense amid the criticism she’s faced.
The Harry Potter TV series will premiere in early 2027 on HBO Max.
