Amandaland star Philippa Dunne teases what lies in store for Anne in season 2

Just over a year ago, the show Amandaland premiered and quickly became a hit, filling the comedy void left when Motherland ended in 2022.

This new series centers on Amanda (Lucy Punch), who’s adjusting to life after a divorce. She’s managing the challenges of raising teenagers, the ups and downs of motherhood, and a complicated relationship with her mother, Felicity (Joanna Lumley).

Joining her are Anne, played by Philippa Dunne, and several new faces: Amanda’s neighbor Mal (Samuel Anderson), and the couple Della and Fi, played by Siobhán McSweeney and Rochenda Sandall.

Over the course of the six episodes, Amanda and Anne faced a number of embarrassing situations. Amanda re-entered the dating world, while Anne became a little too invested in her son’s relationships.

Fans will be happy to hear that Amanda and Anna will return for another season of their playful antics. While details about the new storylines are still under wraps, creator Dunne revealed to TopMob that Amanda will continue to pull Anna into various adventures, saying, “There will be more of that, I think.”

Shortly before attending the Royal Television Society awards, Aisling Bea learned she and her co-star, Lucy Punch, had been nominated for a BAFTA award for their comedic performances.

Dunne said she was incredibly happy and honored by the nomination, admitting she was also quite surprised.

Amandaland has successfully followed in the footsteps of Motherland, and according to Dunne, the fans’ response has been even more positive than expected, as he told TopMob.

We knew creating a spin-off of Motherland came with a lot of pressure, as we didn’t want to disappoint the fans or damage the show’s good name. We’re thrilled that people are enjoying it – and even loving it! It’s been an amazing response.

It’s great to see all the effort was worth it and that people are enjoying it!

Sarah Dunne and Lucy Punch have been colleagues since they first worked together on the show Motherland in 2016. Though their characters, Amanda and Anne, often clash, the two actresses are actually close friends in real life.

Dunne shared with TopMob that this person is a true favourite colleague. She felt an instant connection and continues to admire her, along with Amanda. Dunne expressed that the best part of her job is the opportunity to work alongside such wonderful people and portray characters together.

Amandaland is available to watch on BBC iPlayer, Netflix and Disney+.
