Fans in the UK can finally watch the medical drama The Pitt starting Thursday, March 26th. The first full season will be available all at once on the new HBO Max streaming service, and then new episodes from season two will be released each week.
This new series brings together Noah Wyle and John Wells again, following their successful work together on the hit show ER.
With the arrival of HBO Max in the UK – featuring shows like ‘The Pitt,’ the new Steve Carell comedy ‘Rooster,’ and a fresh season of Lisa Kudrow’s ‘The Comeback’ – TopMob interviewed Casey Bloys, head of HBO and Max Content, to discuss what makes ‘The Pitt’ unique compared to other series.
We realized there wasn’t much long-form television available – shows with more than eight episodes that returned season after season – and decided to fill that gap.
The show takes place in the busy emergency room of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, nicknamed ‘the Pitt’. Each season centers around Dr. Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch (played by Wyle) and his colleagues as they navigate a demanding 15-hour shift, facing challenges like staff shortages and budget cuts. Each episode covers approximately one hour of that shift.
The first part of The Pitt became available on HBO Max in the US on January 9, 2025, and the second part followed nearly a year later, on January 8, 2026.
Every January brings a new season, which is how we designed the show from the beginning,” explained Bloys. “John Wells, Noah, and creator R Scott Gemmill intentionally structured it this way. You have to plan for that possibility—create a show that can be made yearly, with writers capable of quickly developing a full 15-episode story.
