Supermassive Games’ sci-fi horror game, Directive 8020, will launch this Spring after being delayed. It’s been optimized for the PS5 Pro, utilizing features like PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution to deliver improved image quality and sharper graphics. You can see how it looks in the trailer linked below.
The game’s improved visual detail is especially noticeable in the cutscenes, making it simpler to tell the difference between your human teammates and their alien counterparts. Because sneaking and staying hidden will be crucial to survival, the realistic lighting and shadows created by ray tracing are a huge benefit.
According to Studio Technical Director Will Burdon, the game’s advanced ray tracing technology makes light appear much more realistic. Light naturally bounces around environments, reflects off surfaces like metal, and creates shadows that feel true to life. Details like emergency lights and fire flicker convincingly, and even ice realistically bends light, creating a cold and harsh visual effect.
I’m really excited about how Directive 8020 is using the DualSense controller! It sounds like you’ll actually hear your crewmates talking through the speaker, and the haptic feedback is going to make using tools feel so much more immersive. They’re even using it during those tense, critical moments to really ramp up the pressure! And if you mess up? Don’t worry, the Turning Points system lets you rewind and try different choices, which is a huge relief.
On May 12th, the game Directive 8020 will release on Xbox Series X/S and PC. You can watch the prologue to get a preview of key choices, or find out more about playing with a friend.
