PS5’s Dynamic Pricing Disaster Appears to Extend to the US Now

Sony’s controversial new dynamic pricing appears to have rolled out in the US.

This practice initially appeared to be mostly happening in several European countries, but we’re now seeing signs of it being used in the US, starting with the recent Spring Sale.

Cheap Ass Gamer reports that the price of the popular platformer Astro Bot is fluctuating. Some users are seeing it for $39.59 (a 34% discount), while others are finding it for as low as $26.99 (a 55% discount).

Just like before, dynamic pricing only changes how much of a discount you get. You’ll still always save money on Astro Bot, which normally costs $59.99.

Sony’s discount offers aren’t always straightforward. The exact discount you receive depends on their internal system, and the reasons behind it aren’t shared with customers, meaning some people might get a better deal than others.

A recent poll showed that half of Push Square readers believe a certain practice is unfair and want it to end. However, Sony’s current Spring Sale suggests they’re continuing with it. It’s unclear whether this is just a temporary test, or a preview of things to come.

The company behind the platform hasn’t said anything about this, and we don’t expect they will. However, we’ll keep watching to see if the issue is canceled or escalates.
