Fortnite is shutting down three modes on different dates: Here’s what you need to know

Fortnite players, get ready for some changes: three game modes will be removed later in 2024.

Although these three options are being discontinued, they won’t all disappear at once, which might be confusing. It can be hard to keep track of which one is ending and when.

Here’s a quick rundown of the Fortnite game modes that are ending, and when they’ll no longer be available.

Which Fortnite game modes are shutting down?

Later this year, Epic Games will be discontinuing three Fortnite modes: Rocket Racing, Fortnite Ballistic, and Fortnite Festival Battle Stage.

Although these game modes are popular with some players, Epic Games doesn’t appear to be prioritizing updates or support for them.

That’s especially true considering the gaming giant has just laid off more than 1,000 employees.

But when do these three modes leave? Here’s what you need to know.

When does Rocket Racing shut down in Fortnite?

Rocket Racing will be removed from Fortnite in October 2026.

So, leading up to the change, a few things are going away that I really enjoyed. We won’t have the Rocket Racing Quests anymore, and the template they gave us for building tracks in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) is also being removed. Plus, it looks like we’re losing the Ranked rewards we could earn. It’s a bit disappointing, but hopefully, whatever comes next will be even better!

Good news! If you’ve already collected a lot of items in this game mode, your Vehicle Locker won’t be affected. You’ll still be able to enjoy your customized cars until the mode is no longer available.

When does Ballistic shut down in Fortnite?

Fortnite Ballistic will be removed from the game on 16 April 2026.

Ranked Ballistic will remain available so players can complete the current and final season.

Good news for UEFN creators: the tools used for first-person shooter games will still be available, allowing them to continue building experiences like Ballistic.

UEFN will also get some helpful new features, including the ability to use custom weapons, ranked gameplay, and improved ways to find matches.

When does Fortnite Festival Battle Stage shut down?

Fortnite Festival Battle Stage will go offline on 16 April 2026.

Until it does go offline, Quests will remain available for players to complete.

Don’t worry, the Fortnite Festival won’t be going away completely. Epic Games has confirmed that the Main Stage and Jam Stage will still be updated and supported, even though the Battle Stage is ending.
