As a horror fan, I’ve always appreciated anthology films – they’re perfect for a quick scare when you don’t have time for a full-length movie. And Tubi has been killing it this March, adding classics like The Amityville Horror and even some fun picks like Jennifer’s Body. But here’s the catch: one of the best anthology horror series around is leaving the platform soon, so if you want to check it out, you only have a few days left!
The V/H/S horror series presents a collection of terrifying stories, much like sharing scary tales around a campfire. With ten movies in total, the franchise has delivered plenty of frights, but fans won’t be able to stream the original V/H/S and its first two sequels (V/H/S/2 and V/H/S: Viral) on Tubi much longer. These films, known for memorable segments like “Amateur Night” and “Safe Haven,” are leaving the platform, likely at the end of March. The series focuses on cursed videotapes that reveal disturbing and frightening footage.
The V/H/S Franchise Revitalized the Found Footage Subgenre
As a horror fan, I always felt like things stalled a bit after The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity really blew up the found-footage scene. For a long time, we didn’t get anything quite as effective until V/H/S came along in 2012. It was a genuinely terrifying experience! What I loved about V/H/S was how it really leaned into the realism of found footage, making everything feel like actual, disturbing recordings – not some polished Hollywood production. That gritty, low-quality video look, which a lot of newer found footage movies skip, really cranked up the tension. Plus, the anthology format was brilliantly done – six segments, and not a single one let down on the scares or the quality. It was a fantastic ride.
Despite receiving mixed reviews (56% from critics and 41% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes), the first V/H/S film unexpectedly launched a ten-movie franchise and breathed new life into the found footage horror genre. It moved the genre away from slow, atmospheric scares towards a quicker, more intense, and anthology-based style. The original V/H/S became a significant film in horror culture, and each sequel has continued to push boundaries. The franchise is known for its extremely disturbing and graphic segments, making it a favorite among horror fans. These segments – some now considered modern horror classics – cover a wide range of terrifying themes, including the supernatural, monsters, cults, and more, ensuring there’s something to scare everyone in the V/H/S series.
Where to Stream the V/H/S Movies After They Leave Tubi?
Good news for fans of the V/H/S series: you’ll still be able to stream the movies after they were removed from Tubi. The first three films are now available on Philo, and the original 2012 V/H/S is also streaming on Xumo Play and Hulu. Plus, V/H/S: Viral can be found on Xumo Play, Plex, and Fandango at Home.
