The creator of Pokemon Champions wants the game to be a long-term fixture in the competitive Pokemon scene. When it launches in early April, Champions is expected to become the main game for competitive battles. While future Pokemon games will likely still include player-versus-player battling, Champions is intended to be the central hub for competitive play, and the producer hopes it will remain popular “forever.”
I was reading GamesRadar, and the producer of Pokemon Champions, Masaaki Hoshino, was talking about how they envision the game’s future. Basically, they want Champions to stay current with the main Pokemon games. So, whenever a new generation of Pokemon comes out, they plan to add those Pokemon to Champions too. It sounds like they’re building it to grow alongside the whole Pokemon universe, which is pretty cool!
According to Hoshino, Pokemon Champions is intended to be a long-running series, continuing as long as the main Pokemon games are still being made. They even imagine a future with a huge number of Pokemon – possibly thousands, like 2,000, 3,000, or even 10,000!
Could Champions Support So Many Pokemon at Once?

The main challenge with this plan is that Hoshino explains Pokemon Champions probably won’t include all Pokemon at once. While they aim to have “as many Pokemon as possible” in the game, Champions will restrict which Pokemon are available each season. This will keep the game’s competitive scene fresh and create a constantly changing experience.
Hoshino explained that offering all options at once would create a really complex experience. Their current plan is to start with a limited selection and then gradually add more options over time.
The game Pokemon Champions will be available on Nintendo Switch starting April 8th. Players with the newer Nintendo Switch 2 console will enjoy an enhanced version with improved graphics. A mobile version is also planned for release in 2026, though the exact date hasn’t been announced yet.
