His popularity is immense – a Spider-Man team-up comic ran for thirteen years! Because of this success, Marvel created many other heroes inspired by Spider-Man. This ‘Spider-Man Family,’ also known as the Order of the Web, includes characters like Miles Morales and Bailey Briggs, and is full of some of Marvel’s most exciting heroes.
While all of Marvel’s Spider-heroes are fantastic, one stands out as the most significant. Today, we’re going to explore the entire Spider-Family, ranking its members by their overall importance to the Marvel Universe. We’ll consider both their impact on the superhero world and how well-known they are to fans, both in and out of the comics. This ranking will focus solely on the current members of the Order of the Web. Let’s get started!
9) Spider-Boy
I’m a big fan of Bailey! He’s Spider-Man’s former sidekick who briefly disappeared, but thankfully returned and immediately started being a hero again. He’s a cheerful, genuine person who always tries to help others. He really gets what makes Spider-Man special, and understands the importance of responsibility. Seeing him team up with Spider-Man is always fun, and he brings a much-needed sense of optimism to the Marvel universe.
Even though he’s incredibly talented, Bailey is the newest hero on the list and hasn’t had much time to make a real difference yet. The fact that he was completely erased from existence without anyone noticing really highlights his current lack of impact, which is unfortunate. He definitely has the potential to become a leading hero for a new generation, and he offers something different, but he still needs to prove himself.
8) Araña
Anya Corazón initially gained fame as Spider-Girl, but now goes by Araña. She received her powers from a special Spider Society tattoo, allowing her to delve into the magical aspects of Spider-Man’s world, connecting to the larger Spider-Verse. Though intended to be a major supporting character, similar to Batgirl for Batman, she hasn’t reached that level of popularity. Anya consistently appears during Spider-Man-related emergencies, but rarely ventures into other storylines, placing her at number eight on this list.
7) Ghost-Spider
Gwen Stacy of Earth-65 also gained spider-powers after being bitten by a radioactive spider, becoming Spider-Woman in her universe. She later moved permanently to Earth-616 and now operates as Ghost-Spider. While the original Gwen Stacy is incredibly important to Spider-Man’s story, this version is the second most popular. She’s a key character in both the Spider-Verse comics and movies, often stepping up when the fate of reality is at stake. She has potential, but like others before her, needs to demonstrate why she’s a vital part of the team.
6) Madame Web
Julia Carpenter first became known as Spider-Woman, and now operates as Madame Web. Thanks to her link to the Web of Life and Destiny, she can foresee dangers facing other Spider-People and guides them on how to overcome them. Madame Web created the Order of the Web, assembling a team of heroes to rescue Spider-Man from a dangerous enemy and his own struggles. Julia consistently plays a central role in Spider-Verse crises, coordinating heroes and offering vital mystical assistance to ensure success.
Honestly, sometimes Madame Web feels less like a hero and more like… well, a way to make things happen. It’s a little frustrating because she doesn’t jump into the action like the others. But you know what? She’s absolutely essential to the whole Spider-Family. Without her, there wouldn’t be a team! She’s the reason everything gets started, the key to so many of their adventures, and that’s something you can’t ignore. She’s truly the one who brings them all together.
5) Silk
As a huge Spider-Man fan, I’ve always been fascinated by Silk’s story. She actually got her powers from the same spider that bit Peter Parker! For years, she was kept hidden away, protected from this dangerous villain called Morlun, but once he was taken care of, she stepped out of the shadows to become a hero. And she quickly proved she was one of the best Spider-People out there! Now, she’s a leader within this group called the Order of the Web, someone everyone looks to for guidance. It turns out she’s also connected to something much bigger – she’s like the face of this powerful Spider-Totem called the Bride, which is super important to the whole balance of life and destiny. Honestly, she doesn’t always get the credit she deserves, but the team absolutely wouldn’t be where it is today without her.
4) Norman Osborn
It might seem crazy, but Norman Osborn, one of Spider-Man’s biggest enemies, actually became Spider-Man for a time when Peter Parker was sent to space. Though the Spider-Family never fully trusted him, they teamed up to fight for what was right, and that counts for a lot. Norman is undeniably one of the most important villains in Spider-Man’s history. He’s responsible for terrible events like Gwen Stacy’s death and Harry Osborn’s downfall, orchestrated the complex “Clone Saga,” almost wiped out all superheroes while leading SHIELD, and has been a major threat in countless Spider-Man adventures.
Once freed from his past mistakes, Norman Osborn committed to a life of redemption. Beyond being Spider-Man’s alter ego, the Green Goblin, he became a trusted friend and one of the few people who knew Peter Parker’s secret identity and consistently supported him. Norman’s stories, whether as a villain or an ally, have been central to Spider-Man’s legacy for decades and will continue to shape the character for years to come.
3) Spider-Woman
Jessica Drew was the very first Spider-Woman, making her a pioneering figure alongside Peter Parker. She paved the way for Marvel to introduce many other Spider-heroes without necessarily connecting them to the original Spider-Man. As a key member of the Order of the Web, Jessica has also built a significant reputation throughout the Marvel Universe. Her unique powers were granted by the High Evolutionary, and she’s had a complex history, working for organizations like HYDRA and SHIELD, and even serving as a long-time Avenger. Jessica has consistently been a vital part of Marvel’s major teams, and her rich backstory deserves recognition.
2) Spider-Man — Miles Morales
Miles Morales is just as capable a Spider-Man as Peter Parker, and he’s become a vital character in the main Marvel universe. He represents the next generation of Spider-Man, experiencing the classic high school adventures fans love. Miles has truly made the role his own and is now just as important as the original Spider-Man. He’s a key figure in the Spider-Verse, a founding member of the Champions team, and a leader within the Order of the Web. People depend on Miles and believe in his ability to be the hero they need. When it comes to saving the day, he’s just as reliable as Peter Parker.
Miles Morales has developed a rich and unique world of his own within the Spider-Man universe. He’s updated classic Spider-Man themes like the idea of clones, and created a compelling cast of villains. Miles particularly focuses on the more mystical aspects of Spider-Man’s powers, especially through his connection with Anansi. In fact, his villains – characters like Rabble and the Assessor – are just as memorable and exciting as Peter Parker’s most famous foes, which is high praise indeed. Miles is a definitive Spider-Man, and his adventures will continue for a long time to come.
