Pascal Duvier is setting the record straight.
Following accusations that Chappell Roan had her security guard confront Jude Law and Catherine Harding’s 11-year-old daughter, Ada Law, at a hotel in Brazil, the bodyguard explained he wasn’t actually working for the singer.
“I do not normally address online rumors,” Pascal began in a March 25 Instagram post, “but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation.”
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! So, the security guard is now saying he’s taking full responsibility for everything that happened on March 21st! Apparently, Catherine and her husband, Jorginho, were basically accused of harassment just for smiling at poor Chappell while they were having breakfast at their hotel in São Paulo. It’s just… ridiculous! I mean, smiling? Seriously?! I’m so glad someone is finally owning up to this whole mess, even if it doesn’t fix how awful it was for them.
Pascal stated he was at the hotel representing someone else, and wasn’t involved with Chappell Roan’s security. He emphasized that his actions weren’t connected to Roan, her team, her management, or anyone else associated with her.
He explained that he’d made a decision based on information from the hotel, recent events he’d seen, and the increased security concerns at their location.
Jorginho reported that Ada was very upset by the interaction, but the security guard said he didn’t mean to frighten her.
Pascal stated that his only interaction with the mother was peaceful and well-meaning, but he regrets how things turned out.

Jorginho described the incident as “very upsetting” in an Instagram post on March 21st, explaining that Ada hadn’t directly spoken to Chappell before the confrontation.
Oh my god, she just walked by him, you guys! Like, she glanced at his table to make sure it was actually him, gave the sweetest little smile, and then went back to her mom. She didn’t even say anything, didn’t ask for an autograph or a picture, nothing! And then… then everything just exploded. It was a totally overreaction, seriously. I can’t believe what happened next!
He said a big security guard approached their table during breakfast and started speaking very aggressively to both his wife and daughter, accusing his daughter of ‘disrespecting’ or ‘harassing’ others.

I was so confused when I heard about this! Apparently, the person everyone was talking about wasn’t actually with Chappell’s security, even though she was in Brazil performing at Lollapalooza. She said she had no idea what was even happening, which is understandable considering she was focused on her show.
In a video shared on Instagram on March 22nd, the 28-year-old stated they didn’t see a woman and a child, nor did anyone approach them. They were simply having breakfast in their hotel, and believe these individuals were also guests at the same hotel.
She clarified that she hadn’t requested the security guard to approach the mother and child, and they hadn’t approached her either. She emphasized that they weren’t causing any trouble.

Catherine, who previously dated Jude in 2014 and married Jorginho last year, stated she wasn’t sure if the security guard was involved with Chappell’s team. However, she was certain he wasn’t an employee of the hotel. She believes Chappell should be informed about what happened and make things right.
In a video released on March 22nd, she explained that celebrities have a duty to ensure their employees are acting with their approval. She questioned whether someone would act on behalf of another without being authorized to do so, stating she wasn’t sure.

Though it might seem sudden, Chappell Roan has actually been creating music for years, starting as a teenager in Missouri. She began by posting covers and her own songs on YouTube. Atlantic Records discovered her talent and signed her during her senior year of high school, but the excitement felt strangely muted at Willard High.
In a November 2023 interview with Amazon Music, Kayleigh Amstutz shared that the announcement of her signing to Atlantic Records was made over the school’s public address system, followed by the news that pizza would be served for lunch.

Your favorite artist’s favorite artist turned to her family when coming up with her alter ego.
Kayleigh Rose Amstutz was born on February 19, 1998, in Willard, Missouri, but she’s always felt disconnected from her birth name. She’s mentioned that she chose her stage name as a nod to the music her grandfather loved.
She explained to Cherwell in August 2022 that her last name, Chappell, was a tribute to her grandfather, Dennis K. Chappell. She had promised him she would use the name in his honor before he passed away from brain cancer in 2016. Her first name, Roan, came from his favorite song, “Strawberry Roan,” a classic Western tune about a reddish-pink horse, making it a deeply meaningful choice.

Growing up, Chappell attended church multiple times a week, a ritual that made her feel trapped.
She explained to Variety in September 2023 that she struggled with conflicting desires. “I really wanted to be seen as a good person, but I also had this intense need to break free,” she said. “I was sneaking out often, even though I was still going to church three times a week. It was like I was trying to be ‘good,’ but also wanted to rebel and do something completely wild.”
I’ve been following Taylor for a long time, and she’s recently talked about her faith. She’s moved away from organized religion and the church, but she still feels thankful for the values and lessons it taught her growing up. It’s nice to hear she can appreciate that part of her past even as she’s changed.
She told Vanity Fair in September 2023 that she’s no longer actively involved with the Christian Church, but she still feels connected to the community and understands their point of view. She explained that her experience gives her a unique understanding of complex issues, allowing her to see things differently from others.

This midwestern princess was almost a Mid-WED-stern princess.
In a TikTok video from July 2023, she shared that she’d come close to getting married on two occasions, and didn’t want to discuss it further.
Although we don’t know much about her previous relationships, the singer of “Hot to Go” is known for publicly calling out her exes. Before performing her song “My Kink is Karma” at the 2024 Bonnaroo festival, she sent a pointed message to someone she used to date.
She explained that the song was about her former partner, adding, ‘It’s strange to see you turn into the person you always criticized, while I’ve achieved everything I dreamed of.’
And at a later performance she spoke directly to her ex’s new fiancé.
She explained the song was about her ex, who had been telling people they used to date, and included a direct message to their fiancé: ‘You deserve to be with someone else.’

Chappell’s first album was initially going to be called Femininomenon, after one of her 2022 songs. However, she changed the title because she thought it was too difficult for people to say. She finally chose The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess to highlight her connection to the American Midwest.
She told Variety that highlighting her Midwestern roots was crucial to her project. It deeply impacts everything she does – her music, style, songwriting, and overall vibe. She felt it was important to represent that part of herself, something she once thought she’d lost, but now embraces.
The new album title more accurately reflects the story of the artist moving from her hometown in Missouri to chase her musical dreams in Los Angeles.

After being signed to Atlantic Records for five years, Chappell was dropped by the label in 2020.
She explained that her team believed her single, “Pink Pony Club,” created with producer Dan Nigro, wouldn’t be successful during the pandemic and didn’t fit the darker, more gothic direction her music was taking.
She explained on the show Q with Tom Power that her record label dropped her, like many other artists, because of financial difficulties in 2020. With touring—artists’ primary source of income—shut down due to the pandemic, labels were quick to cut ties with anyone not generating revenue. She noted that her album, ‘Pink Pony,’ released in April 2020, was particularly unlucky timing for a dance-focused song, and the label was hesitant to release it in the first place.

When her record label, Atlantic, ended their contract, Chappell returned to her hometown in Missouri to live with her parents and took a job at a drive-through restaurant. It was during this time that she really started to wonder if she should continue pursuing a career in music.
As she recalled, “I was just kind of like, ‘I wonder if this is really for me.’”
Despite the challenges, she didn’t abandon her passion for music and kept working on her unique style on her own.
Looking back, she told Rolling Stone in 2022 that even though her time with that record label was really difficult for five years, it ultimately turned out to be a great thing. Becoming independent afterwards proved to her that she’s capable of handling things on her own.

Chappell isn’t Dan’s only pop princess.
Dan began working with Olivia Rodrigo in 2020 after discovering a video of her singing her unreleased song, “Happier,” on Instagram. They quickly teamed up on “Driver’s License,” which launched Olivia to fame.
Dan and Olivia were hitting it off, but Chappell was back in Missouri focusing on her music. When Chappell came back to Los Angeles and started collaborating with Dan again, she met Olivia, and the two quickly became very close.
I was absolutely thrilled to see Chappell open for Olivia Rodrigo twice! The first time was back in May 2022 in San Francisco during her Sour Tour, and then again at the beginning of her GUTS world tour in 2024. It was amazing both times!
She described being shocked and thrilled by her rapid success. Having played her first headlining show to just 200 people in May of the previous year, she was amazed to be performing for 20,000 people less than two years later. She was particularly excited because she’d opened for the artist in San Francisco the previous May, playing to a crowd of 9,000. While smaller, that show had a particularly energetic atmosphere, as the other artist’s fans were generally younger than her own.

Chappell has supported Olivia Rodrigo during two of her concerts and also contributed backing vocals to several of her tracks.
During a recent interview with Capital Buzz about her first album, she shared that she sang backup vocals on several songs, including “Obsessed,” “Lacy,” “Bad Idea, Right?,” and “Can’t Catch Me Now,” which she recorded for the 2023 movie The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

During an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she explained that she and her stylist, Genesis Webb, find inspiration for her dramatic looks in a variety of places, including drag, horror films, burlesque, and theater. She enjoys playing with contrasts – sometimes aiming for a look that’s both beautiful and frightening, or pretty and over-the-top, and other times embracing something completely different.
No matter what daring outfit she chooses – whether it’s a see-through latex skirt, a fake pig nose, or sparkly butterfly wings – this incredibly fashionable woman always manages to make a statement.

The singer remembered the exact moment she understood that Chappell Roan wasn’t simply a name she used on stage – it was also the identity she took on as a drag performer.
During an interview on Q with Tom Power, Chappell Roan recounted a conversation with a drag queen named Crayola who performed as her opening act in London. Crayola pointed out that Roan wasn’t just wearing makeup, but truly embodying the art of drag, which was a pivotal moment for the artist. Roan explained that this realization allowed her to fully embrace drag as part of her identity, and to view her work as ‘Chappell Roan’ as a dedicated drag project. This separation has also helped her to approach her work as a career, rather than just a personal expression.

While on The Tonight Show, comedian Hannah Gadsby (who goes by Chappell) publicly thanked RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15 winner Sasha Colby. Chappell explained that Colby inspired the popular line, “I’m your favorite artist’s favorite artist.”
She explained that line was a nod to Sasha Colby, who famously says, ‘I’m your favorite drag queen’s favorite drag queen.’ It really resonated with her, and she hoped Sasha Colby might one day see her perform, which is why she included the reference.
One month later, the popular drag performer appeared on stage with Chappell during her set at the 2024 Capitol Hill Block Party.

Okay, so, I found out last year, 2022, that I have Bipolar II, and honestly? Becoming known – getting all this attention – actually pushed me to finally deal with it. It made me realize I needed to get help, you know? It’s like, facing everything publicly forced me to face what was going on inside too.
She told Rolling Stone in September 2024 that she had a very unhappy childhood. She described herself as awkward, extremely shy, and overly aware of herself, and said her parents did everything they could to support her.
She finally said, “I realized I had to change my life. I couldn’t keep living with such intense sadness or feeling so hopeless that I didn’t want to go on. I’ve finally managed to turn things around.”
Since learning about her mental health condition, Chappell has openly shared her experiences with fans and hopes to reduce the shame and misunderstanding surrounding mental health.
As someone who really prioritizes well-being, I wanted to share that mental health is a huge part of my life – it impacts me every single day, and honestly, it even influences my music. I’m feeling really good right now, and I think it’s so important to be open about these things and just talk about mental health. It’s a journey, and sharing can make a real difference.

This Midwestern princess won’t be dating another singer anytime in the future.
In a September 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, the singer of “School Nights” openly stated that he doesn’t want to date other musicians, saying they are “crazy.”
In March 2025, Chappell shared that she had been dating someone for six months and was very happy with the relationship.
“It’s serious,” she said on the Call Her Daddypodcast. “I’m very in love.”
She added, “I’m dating the same person that I was dating before [my career] blew up.”

Chappell revealed she is a lesbian during a performance in Ohio in early 2024, after previously dating men.
She told Rolling Stone that her beliefs prevented her from having relationships with men. Now, she finds the idea of kissing a man unpleasant, feeling that no man could compare to her experiences with women.
Despite her progress, she admitted she still occasionally struggles with her sexuality. “I don’t understand why it bothers me sometimes,” she explained. “It shouldn’t, but I’m realizing I need to come to terms with it.”
Even though she still sometimes feels uneasy, Chappell is comfortable with who she is as a queer person, but she doesn’t want to constantly discuss it.

Chappell revealed to the audience at the 2024 Governor’s Ball in June that she had declined an invitation from President Joe Biden to perform at the White House for Pride Month.
She explained her decision by saying she needed to see everyone treated fairly and with equal rights. Only then, she stated, would she join in.
During the performance, she also demanded equal rights for marginalized communities.
Watching her perform, dressed as Lady Liberty, was incredible. She really drove home a powerful message: she embodies the spirit of the Statue of Liberty, and that means fighting for everyone’s freedom. She reminded us all that iconic poem – ‘Give me your tired, your poor…’ – and explained it perfectly: it’s about trans rights, women’s rights, and standing up for anyone who’s being oppressed, especially those living under occupation. It was a truly moving moment, and a beautiful way to connect that symbol of hope to the struggles happening right now.

I was so excited for Doja Cat’s performance at the VMAs, especially with the Joan of Arc theme! But honestly, something really frustrating happened on the red carpet beforehand. A photographer apparently yelled an incredibly rude comment, and she immediately called him out. I heard she pointed right at him and powerfully told him to ‘shut the fk up’ and to not speak to her like that. It was intense, but I completely understood why she reacted – no one deserves to be spoken to with that kind of disrespect, especially while she’s trying to have a moment.
Her reasoning for standing up for herself is quite simple.
She told Newsweek she’s bothered by the attention that comes with being famous. While some women in the industry are used to it, she isn’t. She made it clear she won’t be polite to anyone who tries to silence her.
Chappell demonstrated a remarkable memory, confronting a photographer at the premiere of Netflix’s Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour about a past unpleasant experience they had shared.
She confronted a photographer, saying, “You were really disrespectful to me at the Grammys and yelled at me at the after-party. I haven’t forgotten it, and I think you owe me an apology for being so rude.”

Although she’s famous for her catchy pop hits, the Grammy-winning artist is now trying something new with her country song, “The Giver.”
Okay, so I was listening to Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen back in March of 2025, and Chappell was on, and he said the reason he wrote a country song was just because he thought it would be hilarious! He described it as totally campy and fun, and honestly, that just makes me love it even more. It’s just so him!
Although the song was fun to create, Chappell also shared that it represents a return to the type of music she originally made.
I’ll tell you, growing up in southwest Missouri, my life was all about Christian music and country. But then I heard Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro,’ and something just clicked! It was unexpected, but I realized I could love that kind of music too. Even with all these different influences, country music has always stayed close to my heart.

The singer of “Red Wine Supernova,” known for being honest about the downsides of fame, suggested she might be even more popular if she kept her opinions to herself.
I’ve been following Jake Chappell for a while now, and his honesty is incredible. He recently told the BBC that he believes he’d actually achieve more if he could just silence his own self-doubt. He explained it like this: if he could ignore those gut feelings telling him to hold back – that inner voice saying ‘stop, you’re not ready’ – he thinks he could really break through and reach a much wider audience. It’s a really vulnerable admission, but I think it shows a lot of self-awareness.
