The Spring 2026 anime season is almost here, and fans are excited for both returning sequels and brand new shows. Popular series from Shonen Jump often generate a lot of buzz due to the magazine’s wide readership. One highly anticipated anime is Akane-banashi, which has been praised for its beautiful animation and compelling story centered around the traditional Japanese art of Rakugo storytelling. Announced last year, it’s scheduled to premiere in Spring 2026. As always, Crunchyroll has released a schedule detailing the release dates, times, and streaming regions for the season’s anime.
The list of available shows will be updated as release dates for dubbed versions are announced. However, Akane-banashi isn’t currently included among the titles listed on the website. While more shows are expected to be announced shortly, Akane-banashi is scheduled to premiere on April 4, 2026, and a major streaming platform hasn’t been confirmed yet. Netflix hasn’t made any announcements, so it appears the studio will likely stream the anime on YouTube.
Akane-banashi Will Be Streaming on YouTube

This year in February, the official English X (formerly Twitter) account for the anime announced that its YouTube channel will share new promotional videos in several languages. After the videos are released, the channel will also offer full episodes to viewers in North and Latin America. Despite the manga’s widespread popularity, no streaming service has yet confirmed a global release for the anime. This is especially surprising given that Netflix briefly featured panels from Akane-banashi and Kagurabachi in a promotional video for Jump titles back in December 2024.
The video created a lot of hope for anime versions of these series, as an adaptation wasn’t mentioned in the original announcement. While the streaming service might make an announcement soon, there’s no confirmed date. Plus, the video itself will only be available to viewers in North and South America, making a wider release through an anime adaptation even more important.
What Is Akane-banashi About?

I’m completely fascinated by this series! It centers around Rakugo, which is this incredible traditional Japanese storytelling art – it’s not super well-known outside of Japan yet, but it’s slowly gaining a really dedicated following. The story follows Akane Osaki, a high school student who’s determined to become a Rakugo master. It’s been her lifelong dream, but there’s also a mystery she’s trying to solve – she wants to find out what really happened when her father was suddenly forced to leave the Rakugo world years ago.
Akane’s father, Shinta Arakawa, was a celebrated Rakugo storyteller until he was unexpectedly dismissed just before reaching the highest rank, shin’uchi. Now, in a field traditionally dominated by men, Akane is determined to become a shin’uchi herself and clear her father’s name, as she believes he was unfairly treated by those in power.
