The Pitt’s Noah Wyle reveals what about the acclaimed medical drama has gone under-reported

After a long wait, the complete first season of the highly praised medical drama, The Pitt, is now available to stream.

The show launched alongside the arrival of HBO Max in the UK, after first premiering in the US in January 2025. Since then, critics and viewers have discussed how realistically it portrays the lives of medical professionals, and praised its compelling drama.

Noah Wyle, star of the hit show Dr Robby, recently told TopMob that one important part of the series hasn’t gotten enough attention: its humor.

When asked what UK audiences might be surprised to learn about the show, actor Wyle emphasized that it’s funny. He explained it’s not just focused on violence and intense storylines, but also includes humor.

Often, when characters face incredibly difficult and frightening situations, it’s their ability to find humor – even dark humor – that helps them cope. That aspect of the story hasn’t really been highlighted yet.

Katherine LaNasa, who portrays charge nurse Dana Evans, shared that the show actually offers a lot of comfort to viewers, perhaps more than they realize.

She explained that while some might expect the show to be purely violent, she believes many viewers find it reassuring. They enjoy seeing characters caring for one another and risking their own safety to help others, and that’s a big part of why people connect with it.

The first season of “The Pitt” follows the staff at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital through one busy shift, showcasing the challenges and variety of cases they handle each day.

In a recent conversation with TopMob, Casey Bloys, head of HBO and Max Content, shared that he noticed a trend in the industry. He explained that many companies were trying to emulate HBO by creating shorter, high-quality shows – often limited series with around seven or eight episodes.

The Pitt season 1 is available on HBO Max in the UK now. Season 2 begins on 2 April.
