Bullseye, whose real name is Benjamin Poindexter, is one of the most formidable villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Originally an FBI agent, he became a highly skilled contract killer with the uncanny ability to turn almost any object into a deadly weapon. First appearing in the final season of the Netflix series Daredevil, he quickly became popular with fans. Marvel Studios later brought the character into Daredevil: Born Again, where he was hired by Vanessa Fisk to kill Foggy Nelson. After escaping from prison, he attempted to assassinate Wilson Fisk himself, but Matt Murdock intervened, taking the bullet for him. Bullseye managed to evade Fisk’s forces and disappeared, left to pursue his own vengeful goals.
The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 became available on Disney+ on Tuesday, and it ended with a surprising twist. Just as agents from the Anti-Vigilante Task Force were about to kill Daredevil after cornering him in Cherry’s apartment, a hidden attacker swiftly eliminated them with accurate, deadly shots.

A knife flew across the room, hitting the wall before landing right in front of Matt Murdock. The blade had two words etched into it: “You’re welcome,” along with Bullseye’s symbol. This surprising act – saving Daredevil’s life – left everyone questioning what Poindexter was really up to.

Dex is unpredictable and can be dangerous, but he’s also a clever strategist who always has a motive. Many viewers remember how things unfolded for him at the end of Season 1. Vanessa Fisk offered him freedom from a psychiatric hospital if he killed Foggy Nelson and Benny Cafaro. After he murdered Foggy, Dex was arrested and received a life sentence on eleven counts of first-degree murder.
After getting inside, Mayor Fisk had the prisoner transferred from protective custody to the general prison population, intending to have him eliminated. But Poindexter, in his own unpredictable way, managed to escape using a broken tooth and went after the Fisks. His attempt to kill Wilson at a charity event failed because Matt intervened, driven by his strong moral code.
Bullseye Has a Personal War Against the Fisks and AVTF
Poindexter has faced hardship since he was young, and much of his suffering stems from the Fisks. They exploited him, threw him away when they were done, and then attempted to have him killed while he was in prison. Adding to that, the AVTF acts as the Fisks’ muscle, immediately making them Poindexter’s adversaries.

In the first episode of Season 2, when the AVTF agents corner Daredevil, Poindexter intervenes not only to protect Matt, but also because he despises these agents even more than Daredevil does. While Daredevil would likely incapacitate them with severe injuries like broken bones and dislocated jaws, he wouldn’t kill them – Poindexter is far more ruthless.

Wilson Bethel, the actor who plays Poindexter, explained the character’s motivations for Season 2. He said Dex starts the season feeling newly determined and having his own vision of how to make amends, though he admits Dex’s idea of redemption is a bit flawed. For Poindexter, getting revenge on those who hurt him – specifically, the Fisks – is the only way he can find justice, given his psychological state. He believes systematically dismantling the Fisks is the closest he’ll get to feeling redeemed.
Kingpin’s decision to save Daredevil isn’t likely based on affection or a sense of family. Matt Murdock is the only person actively working to take down Kingpin’s criminal empire from the outside, and letting him die would be a win for Kingpin. Plus, Kingpin also killed Matt’s close friend, and he might be feeling some guilt about that as well.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Teases Bullseye and Daredevil Team Up
The latest season of Born Again might be setting up a team-up between Bullseye and Daredevil, hinted at by an impressive knife-throwing sequence. Photos taken on set in April 2025—the first concrete evidence of a shift in their relationship—show Wilson Bethel (Bullseye) in new armor standing with Charlie Cox (Daredevil), and they didn’t appear to be enemies. Considering Bullseye previously murdered a close friend of Daredevil’s, seeing them together suggests they might be working together, at least for now.
The first look at Season 2 intensified speculation, showing Daredevil reaching down to help a wounded Bullseye. While they’re usually enemies, Daredevil might see teaming up with someone like Bullseye as a difficult but essential step.
The first season concluded with Matt realizing he needs to gather a team to fight back against Fisk’s control over New York City. This group will include former officer Cherry, Detective Angie Kim, reporter BB Urich, Karen Page, Jessica Jones, and anyone else ready to stand up to the city’s corruption. Fisk’s private security force, the AVTF, is heavily armed and operates without legal oversight, essentially acting above the law. Matt needs allies willing to fight fire with fire, and Dex, with his volatile nature, is the ideal candidate.
Having someone to work with benefits Dex, as he needs a strong sense of purpose to stay mentally stable. The Netflix series Daredevil showed that Dex falls apart without something meaningful to focus on. Joining forces to defeat a common enemy gives him that focus and prevents his fragile mental state from deteriorating.
