It’s typical for a J.J. Abrams production to be shrouded in secrecy. Abrams is well-known for keeping plot details under wraps, both before and sometimes even after a movie’s release – a tactic he famously used with the Cloverfield films. Similar to those movies, the initial trailers for his new project, The End of Oak Street, have generated buzz without giving away much of the story. After working on Star Wars, Abrams is returning to this approach, and the latest trailer confirms it.
Originally called Flowervale Street, the new film from Abrams has been the subject of much speculation. While it was known that It Follows director David Robert Mitchell would be writing and directing, and that Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor would star, rumors persisted about the film’s true nature. The biggest rumor? Dinosaurs. And now, that rumor has been confirmed. You can finally see what the mystery is all about in the new trailer for The End of Oak Street, which reveals the film’s dinosaur-filled premise.
The End of Oak Street Confirms an Original New Sci-fi Movie

The initial trailer for The End of Oak Street confirms dinosaurs will appear in the movie, but the central mystery seems to be about more than just prehistoric creatures. The trailer shows Anne Hathaway’s character telling her son (played by Christian Convery) that their house and neighborhood have somehow “moved.” We then see that she’s right – an entire suburban street has been transported into a Cretaceous jungle.
Okay, so I just got the details on The End of Oak Street, and it sounds wild. Basically, this ordinary suburban street – Oak Street, naturally – gets yanked out of reality by some kind of cosmic event and dropped… well, somewhere else entirely. The Platt family, who live there, quickly realize they’re going to have to rely on each other if they want to survive in this completely unfamiliar and, frankly, terrifying new world. It’s a family-against-the-odds story set against a backdrop of total displacement, and I’m already intrigued.
There’s a lot to look forward to with the upcoming film, The End of Oak Street. It’s a completely original science fiction movie – something movie fans have been wanting for a while now – and it’s releasing at the perfect time, right in the middle of the summer blockbuster season.
Another reason to be excited is the return of director David Robert Mitchell. While he’s famous for the 2014 horror hit It Follows, The End of Oak Street is his first film in eight years, following 2018’s Under the Silver Lake. Mitchell, a highly creative filmmaker, wrote and directed the new movie, and he’s working with familiar collaborators: cinematographer Michael Gioulakis (who also worked on It Follows) and composer Michael Giacchino (known for Star Trek and The Batman).
The new movie, The End of Oak Street, which features a surprising dinosaur story, will be released in theaters and IMAX on August 14, 2026.
