A recent announcement about a Marvel movie coming out in 2026 has fans speculating about who will join the Avengers. This is exciting news because it’s been several years – since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame – since Marvel released a new film featuring the team.
The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is set to dramatically change the Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing together heroes from across different realities. Robert Downey Jr. will play a central role as Doctor Doom. The film will include at least two groups of Avengers – one led by Captain America and another comprised of the former Thunderbolts team. Now, it appears a show that previously aired on a streaming service is hinting at a new addition to one of these teams.
Marvel’s New 2026 Release Teases A Redemption
Be warned, this article contains spoilers for the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2! The new season premiered on Disney+ on March 24th. Both season one and the beginning of season two have included several Marvel villains, such as Kingpin, Muse, and Bullseye. While Wilson Bethel, who plays Bullseye, doesn’t appear on screen in the first episode, his character, Benjamin Poindexter, definitely makes an impact.
The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 dramatically ends with Wilson Fisk’s team capturing Matt Murdock and removing his mask. Just as they’re about to expose his identity or kill him, Bullseye intervenes, eliminating the task force from outside the building. He leaves a distinctive knife at the scene – marked with a bullseye and the message, “You’re welcome” – making it clear to Daredevil who came to his rescue.
In season 3 of Netflix’s Daredevil, Benjamin Poindexter, also known as Bullseye, was presented as a troubled character, rather than a purely evil villain like Kingpin. Even after killing Foggy Nelson in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, it appeared Bullseye might be able to find redemption. The new season of the MCU series begins with Bullseye actually saving Daredevil’s life, signaling a significant move towards that possibility.
Is Bullseye Being Set Up To Join The New Avengers?
If Bullseye were to switch from being a villain to a more complex, anti-hero character, the MCU already has a great team for him to join: the New Avengers, previously known as the Thunderbolts. This team is largely composed of anti-heroes like Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, and John Walker, and Bullseye’s darker personality would be a perfect fit for the group’s overall vibe.
The season 2 premiere also featured a reference to someone connected to the New Avengers, mentioned by Matthew Lillard’s character, Mr. Charles. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who funded the New Avengers to avoid jail time, was revealed to be helping Kingpin through a phone call. It’s unclear if the show will explore more ties to the New Avengers, but the character Bullseye would be a natural fit.
