As a critic, I’m really excited about what Charred Pictures is doing. This new production company, founded by Alanah Pearce – you might know her as a content creator and former game writer – is shaking things up by genuinely involving game developers in the process of adapting their work for the screen. They’ve just announced their first projects, and they’re smart choices: film adaptations of the critically lauded indie games Faith: The Unholy Trinity and Dead Take. It feels like a fresh approach that could finally deliver video game adaptations that actually get the source material.
Alanah Pearce’s Charred Pictures is developing movies based on two indie games
The first project in development is a movie based on Faith: The Unholy Trinity, the popular survival horror game series by Airdorf Games. Pearce will write the script, and Brandon Salisbury – known for his work on Resident Evil directed by George A. Romero – will direct. The film follows a young priest battling demons and a dangerous cult while struggling with his faith, all set against the backdrop of the 1980s “Satanic Panic” in America. Airdorf Games is also executive producing the movie.
Currently in development is “Dead Take,” a movie based on the 2025 horror game from Surgent Studios, a company created by actor Abubakar Salim (known for “House of the Dragon”). Salim, who also co-wrote the game, is co-writing and co-producing the film with Pearce. The story offers a look behind the scenes at the more ruthless aspects of Hollywood, and what people will do to achieve stardom. Another project, “Godmother,” an original screenplay by Pearce and John Veron, has already finished filming.
Charred Pictures works closely with game developers, keeping them involved in every step of making a movie. They’re also funding projects in a new way. Instead of just getting money from traditional movie investors, they’re reaching out to popular content creators – YouTubers and Twitch streamers – who are already fans of the games being adapted.
Pearce joins the company with a wealth of experience, including contributions to the popular God of War franchise. She’s recently worked as a writer on multiple games, directed episodes of the series Dark Corners and The Comic Shop, and appeared in films like V/H/S Beyond and the upcoming game Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 (according to Variety).
