S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope revealed as first major Heart of Chornobyl expansion

GSC Game World has announced the first big expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, called Cost of Hope. It’s scheduled to be released this summer, but a specific date hasn’t been announced.

The new DLC was revealed at the Xbox Partner Preview and promises a significant expansion to the game’s story. Called Cost of Hope, it will add a lengthy new storyline – lasting dozens of hours – along with two new areas to explore, new weapons, and unique anomalies. It will also deepen how you interact with the game world, potentially connecting to the A-Life system which simulates the environment.

The downloadable content will be released on all platforms where the original game is available. For Xbox users, both the game and the DLC will work with the Play Anywhere feature, letting you play on both your console and PC with one purchase.

The new expansion revisits a classic conflict in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe: the age-old rivalry between Duty and Freedom. While a shaky peace maintained by the Zone Brotherhood has kept them from all-out war, tensions are rising again. Duty believes the Zone is a dangerous anomaly that must be eliminated, while Freedom continues to investigate and unlock its mysteries.

The “Cost of Hope” downloadable content starts during the main game, after you find a strange artifact. Once discovered, the story begins through a message on your PDA, leading to a new storyline where your choices matter.

The developers have decided to release the game in three parts, similar to the original series. The main game, Heart of Chornobyl, will be the first installment, followed by Cost of Hope. They plan to finish this new three-part story with another downloadable story chapter.

We still don’t have a specific release date, only that it’s expected sometime in the summer of 2026. The price hasn’t been announced yet either.
