Casey Bloys, head of HBO, explained the reasoning behind ending the show Industry after its fifth season, and hinted at future projects from the series’ creators.
The show initially centered on a group of recent graduates starting their careers at the high-powered London investment bank, Pierpoint & Co. Over time, it expanded to cover the broader financial landscape of the UK and the influential organizations that control it.
According to HBO and Max Content’s chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys, the financial drama series from Konrad Kay and Mickey Down started as a bit of a test project for HBO.
The project started as a conversation between myself and Jane Tranter, the executive producer, and we really approached it as an experiment,” he explained to TopMob.

I was really fascinated to hear how quickly this project came about. Apparently, Kay and Down pitched the idea based on their actual experiences working in finance, and things moved forward almost immediately. It’s cool when a show is rooted in real-life knowledge like that!
He explained that the show’s new and innovative style, involving both the cast and crew, was a key reason for its popularity.
The show featured new writers and a fresh approach: casting actors straight out of drama school and giving those young writers a chance to shine. I really enjoyed the result.

As the show heads into its fifth season, Bloys feels it’s the right time to bring the story to a close.
Bloys suggested that finishing the show Industry might allow its creators to start working on new projects, which he’s looking forward to.
I’m curious to learn more about Konrad and Mickey’s ideas, and I believe they are too. I’m excited to see what they come up with next.
As a big fan, I was really surprised to hear they’re ending the show. The fourth season wrapped up with Yasmin and Harper in such tough spots – morally grey and facing really complicated futures. It felt like they were setting things up for another season where things could get even more intense for them, so it’s a bit of a shock it’s ending now.
HBO Max launches in the UK and Ireland on 26 March. Visit hbomax.com for more information.
