Superhero fans have a lot to look forward to in 2026, with four new films scheduled for release. While 2024 has seen fewer big superhero movies overall, with most releases coming from Marvel and DC, the upcoming films—particularly within the Marvel Cinematic Universe—are expected to be major events.
Last year saw the official start of the new DC Universe with the release of Superman, promising a thrilling lineup of movies. At the same time, Marvel is regaining momentum after a quieter period, working towards a new Avengers storyline. Here’s a ranking of the four superhero films coming out this year, from the least anticipated to the most.
4) Supergirl

The first movie in the new DC Universe, and the earliest one scheduled for release, is Supergirl. The film will tell the story of Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, and her dog, Krypto, as they embark on a journey across the galaxy. This adventure will soon become a mission driven by Kara’s desire for revenge. Supergirl is set to premiere on June 26, 2026.
While Supergirl is promising, it appears to be a fairly typical superhero film without many unexpected twists. It’s unlikely to significantly alter the DC Universe, and Jason Momoa’s appearance as Lobo is probably the most notable addition. The initial trailer didn’t generate much excitement among fans, as the visual style seemed a bit underwhelming.
3) Clayface

Clayface is shaping up to be a truly unique Batman story, and that’s what makes it so interesting. The movie focuses on the villain Clayface, played by Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen. Hagen is an actor who transforms into a shape-shifting creature after a procedure to fix a disfigured face goes wrong. The film is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026.
Unlike the large-scale adventures of Superman and Supergirl, the upcoming Clayface movie will be a more intimate story, making it a unique addition to the DC Universe. The film is being crafted by Mike Flanagan, known for The Haunting of Hill House, and directed by James Watkins of Speak No Evil. Given the unconventional nature of a Clayface movie, it’s clear the filmmakers are passionate about the project. Hopefully, it will be as successful and impactful as other bold DC ventures like Joker and Peacemaker.
2) Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The next Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, is set to release on July 31, 2026, and will bring Tom Holland back as the web-slinging hero after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film will feature Spider-Man, now with his secret identity restored, facing off against a variety of villains including Tombstone, Scorpion, and The Hand. Alongside battling these new threats, Peter Parker will also investigate mysterious changes happening within his own DNA.
With the massive success and anticipation surrounding Spider-Man: No Way Home, the next film is already generating a lot of buzz. Although it’s widely known that past Spider-Man actors will return, there’s still plenty to look forward to. Many fans are particularly hoping for a major crossover with the Daredevil universe. While characters connected to Daredevil, like The Hand and the Punisher, are confirmed to appear, viewers are eager to see Daredevil himself join the action.
1) Avengers: Doomsday

Get ready for Avengers: Doomsday, which is shaping up to be a massive and incredibly exciting superhero event in 2026! The movie will finally bring together storylines that have been building in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years. This adventure across multiple universes will feature the return of Robert Downey Jr., but this time as the villain Doctor Doom. It will unite a huge cast of heroes, including the Avengers, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and even the X-Men. Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026, and its story will continue in Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is set to be the largest and most important story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, and it’s been years in the making since Avengers: Endgame. The film will connect storylines from several previous projects, including Loki, The Marvels, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts and The Fantastic 4: First Steps, among others. Early previews of Avengers: Doomsday suggest it could live up to the considerable excitement surrounding its release, leaving Marvel fans eager to see what happens.
