While Pokémon and Palworld continue to deal with legal battles, a game developer in China has announced a new creature-collecting game.
In truth, despite some similar creature design, Aniimo does very much look like its own thing.
Okay, so you’re catching these awesome mythical creatures using, well, special cubes. But honestly, playing it feels a lot like Genshin Impact – you build a team of creatures and switch between them during battles to mix up their elemental abilities. It’s less about traditional Pokémon battles and more about team synergy!

Here’s how dev Pawprint Studio describes it:
Aniimo is a free-to-play role-playing game where you explore a huge open world and collect amazing creatures called Aniimo. As you team up with these creatures in the vast land of Idyll, you’ll unlock new powers and see the world in a whole new way.
You can journey to a stunning city in the sky, connect with fellow adventurers, swap tales, and compete in exciting challenges. Select your unique Aniimo and begin an unforgettable adventure filled with exploration and discovery!
This update includes a new social space where you can hang out with other players and customize it however you like.
This game definitely seems like a bolder version of the classic Pokémon experience, but visually it feels a little uninspired. It has a somewhat generic look that’s common in games made with the Unreal Engine, wouldn’t you agree?
The game doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but players will be able to try it out at PAX East in Massachusetts this weekend, suggesting that marketing for the game has begun.
