5 Months On, AMC Cancels a Major Series After Only 6 Episodes

It’s becoming more common for TV networks and streaming services to cancel shows after just a few episodes, and now another one has fallen victim. This latest cancellation is particularly noteworthy because the show was connected to a very popular series about to start its third season – a season that will also feature a new title and focus on a different character. This is also the first time AMC has cancelled a show within this franchise, which has been a major source of income and viewers for them.

AMC has decided to cancel Talamasca: The Secret Order after one season. The six-episode series, which began airing in October 2025, is based on the works of Anne Rice and expands her ‘Immortal Universe’ on television. The show centers on Guy Anatole, a law student who is recruited by the Talamasca, a hidden organization dedicated to protecting humanity from the supernatural. Guy learns the Talamasca has been watching him for years and is drawn into a secret world of agents and immortal beings who work to maintain a delicate balance with the human world.

It’s a Shocking Decision Considering The Universe’s Popularity

Joining Interview with the Vampire (now called The Vampire Lestat as it begins its third season) and The Mayfair Witches, Talamasca: The Secret Order completed AMC’s adaptation of Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe. Although the show has been canceled, AMC has confirmed that characters and the Talamasca organization itself will likely reappear in future projects within the franchise, as they told Variety.

Although the Talamasca doesn’t have its own dedicated book series, it’s a part of both The Vampire Chronicles and The Mayfair Witches universes. The Vampire Lestat, adapted from several books within Ann Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles, will premiere in June. It follows Lestat as he pursues a career in music, with figures from his past reappearing to complicate things. Sam Reid returns as Lestat, and the third season promises to be the most dramatic and chaotic yet. According to Deadline, this new installment will explore Lestat’s impact on both vampires and humans, and how others react to his growing power during a sudden and massive increase in the vampire population – an event known as the Great Conversion.
