Bethesda announced that The Elder Scrolls: Blades will officially close down on June 30, 2026, and is no longer available for download. The game, a mobile spin-off released in May 2020 for Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch, let players experience classic dungeon crawling as members of the Blades – an exiled group following the events of the Great War. After six years, Bethesda will discontinue service, making the game inaccessible after June.
Bethesda has several mobile games available, including Fallout Shelter and The Elder Scrolls: Castles, but The Elder Scrolls: Blades hasn’t been as successful. While the other games have generally been well-received, Blades received mostly negative reviews, earning a score of 37 on OpenCritic. A major complaint was its free-to-play system, which included in-game purchases that many players felt gave an unfair advantage to those willing to spend money.
The Elder Scrolls: Blades is Shutting Down on June 30
The mobile game The Elder Scrolls: Blades will shut down on June 30th. The game is no longer available for download on Google Play, the Apple App Store, or the Nintendo eShop. While current players can still enjoy the game until June 30th, new players won’t be able to download and start playing.
Although the upcoming shutdown of The Elder Scrolls: Blades is sad news for players, Bethesda is offering a big sale on everything in the game’s store. All items will cost just 1 Gem or 1 Sigil, and every player will receive a supply of these currencies to unlock all the content before the game closes permanently. This means fans can enjoy the full game experience for the next two months.
The Elder Scrolls: Blades’ Shutdown Comes at a Stagnant Time for the Franchise
Fans of The Elder Scrolls are eagerly awaiting the next major installment in the series, but news has been scarce. While the remastered version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion offered a welcome return to the world, updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 – first announced at E3 in 2018 – have been minimal, increasing anticipation. Though Bethesda’s Todd Howard has stated that most of the studio is now focused on the game, it’s expected to be several years before it’s released.
With The Elder Scrolls: Blades being removed as an option, fans waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6 may be looking for something to play in the meantime. Luckily, there are still several choices! If you have a Nintendo Switch 2, Skyrim now runs at a smooth 60 frames per second, making it a great time to revisit the game. Mobile players who enjoyed Blades can switch to The Elder Scrolls: Castles, where you build and manage your own kingdom, and send adventurers to explore dungeons. While these games aren’t quite the same as Blades, they’ll help players stay engaged in the world of Tamriel until the next major release.
