If you’re familiar with the Resident Evil series, you likely know Albert Wesker. Many fans have been hoping actor Anthony Starr, known for his role as Homelander in The Boys, will play Wesker in a future adaptation. However, despite the excitement and the recent resurgence of Resident Evil in theaters, Starr has indicated he might not be interested in taking on the role at this time.
For those who don’t know, Albert Wesker is a virologist who worked for the Umbrella Corporation and was determined to achieve their goals no matter the cost. With a new Resident Evil movie coming out on September 18, 2026, directed by Zack Cregger, it’s likely Wesker will appear in future films. However, when asked about potentially reprising the role, actor Andrew Starr seemed surprised. He told ComicBook he wasn’t sure why people were asking and joked that his only similarity to Wesker was his blonde hair, which he’s since dyed. He also pointed out he’s 50 years old, implying he’s too old for the part, despite Wesker being only 48 in the original story.
Starr Is Doing Some Backtracking on Previous Interest in Wesker
When plans for a new Resident Evil movie series were revealed, fans immediately started speculating and suggesting actors for different roles. Artist BossLogic even created a fan-made image of John Boyega as the character Wesker. Boyega responded to the image and the requests for him to play the villain with a simple, enthusiastic: “I agree.”
Following the interview, fans continued to believe John Boyega would be a fantastic Albert Wesker, even though he said he wasn’t familiar with Resident Evil. One fan commented, “His repeated claim of not knowing what Resident Evil is actually feels very Wesker-like!” Another added that Boyega has the look, can play villains convincingly, and is a talented actor, asking, “What more do we need? No one cares about his age!”
Even though Starr has expressed hesitation about taking on this new role, fans are still enthusiastic about him potentially playing Wesker – a violent, blonde villain that many believe he’s perfectly suited for.
