Fans of Power Rangers are eager for news about several upcoming projects, like the new live-action reboot, a film from Paramount, and a fan-made movie called Ninja Kidz. But there’s another project fans have been anticipating for even longer – a final work from a beloved actor who was part of the Power Rangers legacy. After a long wait, we now have details about its release.
Jason David Frank, best known as a major advocate for Power Rangers, was also dedicated to his own film, Legend of the White Dragon, through Bat in the Sun. Fans have eagerly awaited its release, and Bat in the Sun has now announced it will be shown in select cinemas on August 28, 2026, giving fans the chance to see Frank’s special project come to life.
What Is Legend of the White Dragon?

Frank’s film, Legend of the White Dragon, is a labor of love, blending the familiar action of shows like Power Rangers with a more grown-up story and serious tone. The movie centers on Erik Reed, the White Dragon, a once-beloved hero who’s been hiding for years after a strange incident turned him into a wanted man. To prove his innocence and safeguard his loved ones, he must return to the city he once defended, which will lead to a showdown with the enigmatic Dragon Prime (Aaron Schoenke).
The movie includes several popular actors from previous Power Rangers series, like Jason Faunt (from Time Force), Ciara Hanna (Megaforce), and Cerina Vincent (Lost Galaxy). It also features Mark Dacascos (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum), King Bach (The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live), David Ramsey (Arrow), Michael Madsen (Kill Bill), Rachele Brooke Smith (In Other Words), Kevin Porter (Dante’s Hotel), Mayling Ng (The Suicide Squad), and Jenna Rae Frank, who is the daughter of a beloved Power Rangers star.
The trailer for Legend of the White Dragon showed off stunning images, but actor Frank was particularly excited about playing a more nuanced character, Reed. He previously told ComicBook that he wanted audiences to connect with Reed because his struggles reflect experiences people of all ages can relate to.

Frank believes audiences will connect with Erik Reed because he’s a stark contrast to Tommy Oliver. He describes Reed as a more grown-up version of the character, but entirely distinct. Ultimately, he’s excited to portray a mature role on television, one that isn’t limited by the constraints of children’s programming or PG-13 ratings, allowing him to explore more complex themes.
Frank explained that he wanted to make the characters more relatable by acknowledging the challenges teenagers face today, like depression, which has been especially prevalent during quarantine. He felt it was important to show that everyone, even older characters, deals with personal struggles and regrets. He believes the character of Erik Reed will reflect this, demonstrating that life is complicated and often understood only by the individual experiencing it.
Legend of the White Dragon will hit theaters on August 28, 2026.
