Reboots of classic animated series are proving popular right now. Shows like King of the Hill, Futurama, Beavis and Butt-Head, and The Amazing World of Gumball have all come back and attracted a large audience. Since many of these shows originally aired in the 90s, there’s a wealth of other animated series fans would love to see return. Here at egmr.ru, we’re experts on 90s adult animation, so we’ve put together a list of the shows we’d most like to see revived.
7.) Home Movies

Though it originally aired on UPN, the animated series Home Movies played a big part in launching Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. Created by Brandon Small – who later became known for Metalocalypse – the show centers around a young Brandon and his efforts to create home movies while navigating everyday suburban life. After running for four seasons, a revival of the series feels very possible, as many of the original cast members are still working in animation.
6.) Mission Hill

Just barely making the list is Mission Hill, which first aired in the fall of 1999. Originally on The WB, the animated series also appeared on Adult Swim, similar to Home Movies, and helped build an audience for Cartoon Network. Though it only lasted one season with thirteen episodes, the story of brothers Andy and Kevin French still feels relevant today. The show’s premise – two brothers trying to make it in the city – is a relatable and potentially successful one for many viewers.
5.) Daria

Mike Judge, the creator of both Beavis and Butt-Head and King of the Hill, has recently brought those shows back for new seasons, continuing their popularity. While his character Daria originally appeared in Beavis and Butt-Head and recently made a cameo in the latest season, a full revival series for Daria hasn’t happened. Many fans feel Daria Morgendorffer deserves another chance to star in her own show, and it’s disappointing that a revival didn’t come to fruition.
4.) Duckman

It’s disappointing that the 90s animated series Duckman isn’t available on any popular streaming platforms. The show, which originally aired on USA Network, ran for four seasons and seventy episodes, and featured Jason Alexander (best known as George from Seinfeld) voicing the hilariously crude private detective. A revival is overdue not only to revisit its strange and unique world, but also because the show ended on a massive cliffhanger over thirty years ago. Fans still wonder what happened, and Duckman deserves a proper conclusion to its story.
3.) The Critic

Despite first airing on ABC over thirty years ago, The Critic is still beloved by fans. The show moved to Fox for its second season, and a web series was later made to revive Jay Sherman’s film reviews. It’s particularly disappointing that The Critic hasn’t returned, as the creators have been actively trying to bring it back for years. Sadly, there’s been no news about Jay Sherman reappearing in animation, and it’s a real shame we haven’t gotten more seasons of this hilarious comedy.
2.) The Maxx

Before Marvel’s big movie universe, Image Comics was already introducing its heroes through animated shows. The Maxx had a particularly unusual start, airing on MTV as part of their experimental programming. With the recent passing of its creator, Sam Kieth, it would be a fitting tribute to revisit the story of this unique superhero. Although the original series had a definite ending, the comics offer plenty of material for a new show. Because the original animation closely mirrored the look of the comics, bringing this strange crime fighter back to television would be incredibly exciting.
1.) Spawn

The animated series Spawn on HBO is still considered one of the best superhero adaptations, running for three seasons. Similar to the show Duckman, the series finale left viewers with an unresolved cliffhanger, as the hero Al Simmons struggled to reclaim his humanity. Because the Spawn comic books are still being published regularly, there’s plenty of material for a new television series. Plus, Keith David, who voiced Spawn, has expressed interest in returning to the role – he recently reprised it for a Mortal Kombat game, and fans are hoping he’ll get another chance on TV.
