Charlie Cox Reveals How He Would Revive Beloved ‘Daredevil’ Character

The new season of Daredevil: Born Again is getting mostly positive reviews. However, some viewers are still upset about a shocking moment from the first season: the death of Matt Murdock’s close friend and colleague, Foggy Nelson (played by Elden Henson). He was killed by the villain Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) under orders from Vanessa Fisk (Ayelet Zurer). Since Foggy was a key character throughout all three seasons of the original Daredevil series on Netflix, seeing him killed off so quickly in this Disney+ reboot was a big surprise for many.

After that dramatic scene, Foggy appeared to have died – Matt, with his exceptional hearing, confirmed his heartbeat had stopped. However, the show Daredevil: Born Again is inspired by Marvel comics, where death isn’t always permanent. Fans have been hoping Foggy might return, and while Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock/Daredevil, has previously dismissed the idea, he sometimes enjoys teasing the possibility.

At the C2E2 convention over the weekend, actor Elden Henson (who played Foggy Nelson) suggested a way to bring his character back to life. He proposed that Elektra could resurrect Foggy, and then he would become the new leader of the Hand.

Could Foggy Return in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’?

Okay, so this idea I heard about doesn’t totally fit with everything we know from the Marvel universe, but let’s be real, they change things all the time. I mean, Elektra, Matt’s complicated girlfriend, has come back from the dead before – Elodie Yung really nailed that role in the Netflix series – but she’s never been shown bringing people back herself. And Foggy becoming a big shot in The Hand? That’s a stretch, considering they’re this ancient ninja crime syndicate. Still, it is Marvel, so honestly, anything could happen!

As a huge Daredevil fan, I was completely floored by the ‘Red Fist Saga’ run from 2022-2023. It got dark. Poor Foggy Nelson gets killed and then brought back to life by the Hand, but as a puppet. When Daredevil finally takes down the Hand, the magic holding Foggy together fails, and he… well, he turns to dust right before our eyes. It’s brutal! But it doesn’t end there. Driven by rage and grief, Daredevil actually sacrifices himself and goes all the way down to Hell to rescue Foggy, battling a terrifying demon called the Beast to do it. Seriously, it’s one of the most intense storylines I’ve ever read.

It seems unlikely we’ll see such dramatic events on a relatively realistic show like Daredevil: Born Again. However, things could change as the series progresses. This isn’t even the most shocking time Foggy Nelson has “died” in the comics. Back in 2006, a comic showed Foggy being stabbed while visiting Matt in prison, seemingly killed—but it turned out he was just seriously injured and entered witness protection. Perhaps the show could take a similar, less extreme approach.

Elden Henson will be back for season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, likely appearing as Foggy Nelson in flashback scenes. However, given the unpredictable nature of Marvel Comics, anything is possible.

New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are released on Disney+ every Tuesday. On March 31st, you’ll be able to watch episodes “Shoot the Moon” and “The Scales & the Sword” at the same time.
