While this probably won’t have a big impact on video games, it shows how worldwide problems are adding up: Sony has paused sales of its memory cards, which are mostly used in digital cameras.
As PetaPixel first noted, the company has stopped making CFexpress and SDXC/SDHC memory cards, though a limited number of SD cards are still available. You might still find some in stores as existing supplies are sold.
This change will likely impact both retailers and customers for the near future, potentially leading to higher prices and limited availability of comparable products.
The company explained its decision by pointing to a worldwide shortage of memory chips, as well as other issues. Experts believe a shortage of helium, worsened by the conflict in Iran, is also contributing to problems for chip manufacturers.
Sony recently increased the price of the PlayStation 5 significantly, citing ongoing global economic challenges as the reason.
