Hey everyone, great news if you’re a Darksiders fan like me! THQ Nordic just announced that Darksiders Warmastered Edition is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on May 19th. You’ll be able to grab it digitally or even a physical copy for $29.99. I’m really hoping they bring it to the new Nintendo Switch too, but there’s no news on that yet. They dropped a trailer to show it off, so check it out below!
The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Darksiders Warmastered Edition don’t offer significant changes from the 2016 release on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U. The new trailer mainly shows off the game’s post-apocalyptic world and snippets of its combat.
In the game Darksiders, you play as War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He’s a survivor of a massive battle between Heaven and Hell, but is wrongly blamed for starting the final war too soon. The ruling Charred Council sends him on a quest to find the real culprits. His siblings, Fury, Strife, and Death, were unable to assist him, as their own adventures are explored in other Darksiders titles.
War, a powerful being representing conflict, journeys to Earth seeking those who initiated a devastating war. This pursuit brings him into conflict with both powerful angels and the inhabitants of hell.
The original Darksiders focused on action-packed combat, but it also took inspiration from classic The Legend of Zelda games like Ocarina of Time. It featured areas—similar to dungeons—where players would find new abilities and weapons. These weren’t just for fighting; players often had to use them to solve puzzles and unlock new sections of the game.
Just months after THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games announced Darksiders 4, they’ve revealed that Darksiders Warmastered Edition is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. While details about the new game are still limited, it’s confirmed that players will be able to control all four Horsemen, and experience the entire game either solo or with friends in co-op.
The release of Darksiders Warmastered Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S might suggest that news about Darksiders 4 is coming soon. Although THQ Nordic hasn’t confirmed anything, it’s possible the other games in the series – Darksiders 2, 3, and Genesis – will also be updated for newer consoles.
Gunfire Games is the studio behind popular co-op shooters Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant 2, known for their tough but rewarding gameplay. The team also has a strong connection to the Darksiders series; Gunfire Games was founded by David Adams, who previously worked alongside many of its current developers at Vigil Games – the original creators of Darksiders.
