Travis Kelce isn’t afraid to reference his love story.

Even while planning their wedding, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce didn’t seem bothered when singer Taylor Swift was called his wife.

On the April 1st episode of the New Heights podcast, hosted by Travis Kelce and his brother Jason, the 36-year-old playfully discussed his basketball skills with University of Cincinnati Head Coach Jerrod Calhoun. He joked that he still had one semester of eligibility left to play college basketball.

Jerrod promised a good deal for using the athlete’s name, image, and likeness, but told him he needed to discuss it with his wife.

Travis laughed at the comment and playfully responded as if speaking to Taylor, saying, “Honey, I’m going back to school.”

The popular quarterback, a three-time Super Bowl winner, has confirmed he’ll be back for a 14th season with the Chiefs, putting an end to speculation about his retirement from professional football.

He admitted to Pat McAfee on The Pat McAfee Show on March 10th that his decision came quickly. He also said the Kansas City Chiefs were fully aware of his intentions throughout the process.

Still, Travis admitted he needed a beat to think clearly about his future in football.

Honestly, listening to him talk just gives me chills! He always says you have to take a moment, you know? Just breathe, let everything from the season calm down, and really feel how your body is doing. But the best part? He still loves this game. He’s so passionate! He genuinely loves going to work every day, putting on all the gear, pushing himself, and just…playing. It’s amazing to hear, and it makes me love the game even more just hearing him talk about it!

Travis and Taylor are getting married soon, but they’ve been very private about the wedding plans, and so have their friends and family.

Niall Horan recently hinted he has many weddings to attend, telling a radio station he was booked for “loads.” When asked if Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding was on his list, he avoided giving a direct answer.

Oh my god, he totally knew what I was hinting at! Niall, bless his heart, just casually dropped that he’s been getting wedding invites! Wedding invites! Can you even?! It was so subtle, but I knew what he meant. He’s definitely thinking about it… I just know it!

Honestly, I just know if Taylor and Travis ever get married, it won’t be on just any day. It has to mean something, you know? Especially for Taylor. She’s all about symbolism and hidden messages, so it absolutely has to be a date that’s special to them – or at least, a date that she’s put a lot of thought into. Her two-hour appearance aired 13 days before she and Travis Kelce announced their engagement, though Travis’s father mentioned they’d told close friends and family about their relationship three days earlier. Swift said she genuinely enjoys exploring these kinds of patterns and meanings.

Travis’s future with the NFL after his contract ends in 2025 will influence when they set their wedding date. If he continues playing, they’ll plan the wedding during the off-season, likely between February after the Super Bowl and the start of training camp in July.

If Travis retires after 13 seasons – which is hard to believe – he’ll be able to get married, possibly in October, Taylor’s favorite month. The exact timing will depend on whether Taylor announces a tour for her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, which was released on October 3rd. We’ll know more once tour dates are revealed.

Taylor Swift is famous for her close friendships with many celebrities, but she revealed in October 2025 that she hadn’t started planning her bachelorette party yet.

He proposed wearing shorts (it was a hot August day in Kansas!), which led to jokes online about him walking down the aisle in them too. However, that would be a pretty unconventional choice, and he probably wants to make sure all eyes are on his partner, who will be wearing a beautiful dress.

Taylor Swift addressed concerns about potentially planning her future husband’s wedding details, telling Cosmopolitan in 2012 that she wanted to ensure he felt his presence mattered, and that she hadn’t already chosen his tuxedo.

Taylor and Travis both deeply value family, so their parents and brothers are naturally key figures in the wedding. Jason Kelce, likely to be Travis’s best man, has two young daughters, Wyatt and Elliotte, who will probably be flower girls. Depending on the wedding date, his younger sister, Bennett, might also join them. Their newest baby, Finnley, will likely be too young to participate.

It will be interesting to see which of Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs teammates are invited, but he was a groomsman at Patrick Mahomes’ wedding to Brittany Mahomes in 2022, so we know at least one teammate—and coach Andy Reid—will be there. Plus, he’s maintained a close group of friends since his high school days in Cleveland Heights, which means the bachelor party—filled with golf and drinks—is going to be a lot of fun.

Taylor Swift’s childhood friend, Abigail Anderson, has consistently been a close part of her life. Though Taylor’s group of friends has changed over time, Selena Gomez remains a key member, regularly exchanging gifts with Taylor. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are also still close, despite recent reports about a possible falling out linked to Blake’s legal issues.

Also, Taylor is already a godmother to Blake and Ryan’s daughters, so she’s familiar with the role of a special helper at a wedding.

Let’s be real, a lot of couples are opting for super personal weddings these days, and I’m seeing more and more friends and family getting ordained online to actually lead the ceremony. It’s a sweet touch! While anything goes, I’m probably not expecting to see Flavor Flav up there, though you never know!

On the September 17th episode of New Heights, Travis shared his preference for live music, saying, “I think we’re just people who enjoy a band over a DJ, you know?”

Even if the bride doesn’t perform, she has many talented friends who are great singers. We’re particularly hoping to see Haim take the stage!

But Taylor joked it “would be hard to keep” Ed Sheeran from performing at her wedding. 

You know, I was chatting with someone recently, and they put it perfectly when talking about Ed Sheeran. They said it’s just in his nature – if there’s a stage, he has to be on it! He truly understands what his fans are craving, and he’s dedicated to delivering exactly that. It’s amazing to see an artist so connected to his audience.

Taylor may love Travis so much she’d marry him with paper rings, but that won’t be the case.

Taylor Swift explained on The Graham Norton Show in October that she preferred not to deal with the difficulty of deciding who to exclude from her guest list. She said making those cuts would force her to seriously consider her relationships with people.

And, she added, “I’m not gonna do that.”

Comedian Nikki Glaser, a self-proclaimed fan of Taylor Swift, believes a large wedding is likely in the future. She told TopMob News at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, “Everything has been building up to this moment.”

The comedian pointed out that because Taylor Swift is constantly in the spotlight – essentially treated like a bride every day – her wedding will probably be kept very private.

Nikki said she knows the person just wants to share the happy occasion with everyone they care about, and they have a large circle of friends and family. She jokingly predicted that someone will likely try to spoil the celebration by taking unwanted helicopter photos from above.

As soon as the wedding is over and the couple drives away, Taylor will definitely begin sharing photos and details from her wedding with her fans.
