SEGA has acknowledged that come September, Sakura Wars will celebrate its 30th anniversary.
While this long-running series hasn’t become hugely popular outside of Japan, many fans think SEGA should give it more attention.
So, if you played 2020’s Sakura Wars on PlayStation 4, you might remember it – it was the first attempt in a long time to bring the series back. Honestly, I thought it was pretty good! It mixed a really engaging story with all the characters, and then you got to jump into some fun mech combat. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a solid revival.
It wasn’t a huge success, and we haven’t heard much about it since, particularly when it comes to video game consoles.
Just to clarify, SEGA hasn’t announced any new games or projects. They’ve only said there will be anniversary merchandise and events, so it’s best not to expect anything more right now.
Even so, anniversaries occasionally offer fans small bits of new information. For instance, interviews with people involved in the series might suggest that something interesting is happening behind the scenes. However, it’s still too soon to know exactly how extensive these anniversary celebrations will be.
Are you hoping for a new Sakura Wars game? Let us know in the comments if you’d like to see the all-female mech pilot team make a comeback!
