Now, these epic beings are finally getting the spotlight in a special tribute called Marvel’s Mightiest Monsters, and we’re giving you an exclusive first look!
Dark Horse Comics has given fans a first look at a larger, special hardcover edition of Marvel’s Mightiest Monsters. This book, written by comic historians John Lind and Chris Ryall, explores the history of Marvel’s monster characters. The 416-page collection will showcase stories featuring iconic monsters like Fin Fang Foom, Groot, and Monsteroso, alongside work from legendary creators including Jack Kirby, Larry Lieber, Steve Ditko, and Stan Lee – and that’s only a small part of what’s inside.
Discover Iconic Monsters Before Their Marvel Debuts

This new collection showcases classic issues from beloved anthology series like Tales to Astonish, Journey Into Mystery, Strange Tales, and Tales of Suspense. It features work by iconic creators such as Kirby, Ditko, Lieber, and Lee, alongside many other talented artists.
This large-format book showcases updated artwork of classic monsters by creators including Chris Claremont, Sal Buscema, John Byrne, Gil Kane, Arthur Adams, and Eric Powell. It features both the stories and original artwork by Jack Kirby, alongside insightful essays from comic historians exploring the history of these iconic creatures. The book’s cover is also designed with monsters in mind, created by Ian Chalgren.
According to co-editor Chris Ryall, these early monster comics came before the creation of Marvel. However, the stories by Lee, Kirby, and Ditko were incredibly influential, essentially setting the standard for the epic characters and incredible artwork that would later define Marvel, all created by three legendary artists.
Co-editor John Lind shared that they’re thrilled to present a special collection of classic Marvel monsters from the 1950s, highlighting how these characters continue to inspire modern monster comics.
The book Marvel’s Mightiest Monsters will be available in bookstores and comic shops on October 13, 2026, and will cost $75.00.
