Recent anime hits like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw Man have quickly become incredibly popular. Each series has achieved major success, including at least one blockbuster movie, and is widely recognized even by casual anime viewers. Their compelling storylines, beautiful animation, and fresh take on classic shonen themes explain their widespread appeal.
While recent anime like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw Man have become instant hits, there are other newer shows that are just as good and deserve more recognition. It’s surprising some haven’t gained as much popularity, considering they share many of the same qualities that made those other series so successful. These shows still have the potential to become incredibly popular, but they need viewers to give them a chance.
4) Kaiju No. 8

With all the ingredients for a popular action series like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, or Chainsaw Man, Kaiju No. 8 is a bit of a surprise when it comes to its current level of popularity. Like those shows – and even Attack on Titan – it’s set in a world threatened by monsters, focusing on the people who fight them. The main character, Kafka, unexpectedly becomes one of the monsters he’s sworn to destroy, creating a similar dynamic to characters like Denji or Itadori. Kaiju No. 8 effectively combines Kafka’s personal challenges with a larger, more intense storyline, and it’s sprinkled with good humor. This makes it very similar to other recent anime hits, which is why its lack of buzz is surprising. While it might not break a lot of shonen anime conventions, it uses them skillfully. Plus, having a protagonist in his thirties offers a unique and welcome twist. It’s a shame the anime isn’t getting more attention after two seasons.
3) Hell’s Paradise

When Hell’s Paradise first came out in 2023, it gained some attention, but it hasn’t reached the same level of popularity as hits like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, or Chainsaw Man. Even with the strong reception to Season 2, which was a highlight of the Winter 2024 anime season, that remains true. This is surprising because Hell’s Paradise feels like it would fit perfectly alongside those other shows, while still offering something unique. It’s a well-made anime from MAPPA, and it doesn’t shy away from complex or dark subject matter. The story blends the supernatural with an adventurous quest, resulting in a distinctive narrative. Despite its quality, mature themes, and depth, it’s puzzling why Hell’s Paradise isn’t yet considered among the decade’s biggest anime titles.
2) Vinland Saga

While many anime fans know Vinland Saga, it doesn’t get talked about as much as popular shows like Demon Slayer. That’s a shame, because it’s brilliantly written and offers a fresh take on the Viking age – a setting we don’t see often. In just two seasons, the series powerfully explores themes of violence and revenge, all while delivering compelling characters, exciting action, and beautiful animation from studio MAPPA. With a substantial amount of source material still available in the manga, Vinland Saga deserves the same attention as hits like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. It might be the unusual subject matter, but this show is a true masterpiece and deserves wider recognition.
1) Mob Psycho 100

Despite being a well-regarded anime with a complete story and coming from the creator of One-Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100 surprisingly never achieved mainstream popularity like some other supernatural anime. It shares the same humor and appeal as One-Punch Man, and its compelling drama, unique animation, and exciting action would have translated well to a blockbuster film. While it’s now too late for a theatrical release, Mob Psycho 100’s strong legacy ensures it will continue to be appreciated by fans for years to come.
