Marvel Fans Will Need to Pay Extra Money To Watch Marvel’s Next TV Show When It Premieres

The upcoming superhero series after Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will be released differently than most Marvel projects. Marvel is now expanding beyond theatrical releases, using streaming and TV to tell longer superhero stories. The next show to debut using this approach is Spider-Noir, a collaboration between Sony and Amazon MGM Studios.

Following the success of Sony’s animated film Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Noir introduces Ben Reilly, also known as The Spider, with Nicolas Cage returning to play the character in live-action. The series is already standing out with its distinctive presentation, offering both color and greyscale viewing options. However, Marvel fans should be aware of where they can watch it, as it’s not available on traditional platforms.

Most Marvel TV shows appear on Disney+, but the new series Spider-Noir is different. It’s a partnership between Sony Pictures and Amazon, so it won’t be on Disney+. Instead, Spider-Noir will premiere in the US on MGM+ on May 25th. It will then be available worldwide on Amazon Prime Video on May 27th. If you want to watch it as soon as it comes out, you’ll need an MGM+ subscription. Otherwise, you can watch it on Prime Video starting May 27th.

MGM+ is a streaming service that was recently updated in 2023. While it doesn’t have a huge library of original shows and movies yet – featuring titles like Robin Hood, The Institute, and Spider-Noir – it’s becoming known for its franchise originals. Marvel fans wanting to watch Spider-Noir as soon as it’s released will need to subscribe, as it costs around $7.99 a month.

As a big Marvel fan, I know a lot of us are already using Prime Video because of shows like The Boys and Invincible – and new episodes of those are coming soon, too! But this new deal means another streaming subscription on top of Disney+, where most Marvel stuff lives. Plus, we’ll have to wait a few days for Spider-Noir to hit Prime on May 27th. It’s a bit of a juggling act to keep up with everything!

Spider-Noir features Nicolas Cage, Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson. The story centers on Nicolas Cage as Ben Parker, and it’s a dark, crime-filled superhero tale set in a 1930s New York City that’s different from our own.

Will Spider-Noir’s Additional Cost Turn Away Viewers?

Many fans will be annoyed that the first episodes of Spider-Noir are debuting on MGM+, a streaming service that requires a separate subscription. With streaming costs constantly increasing, most people only subscribe to one service at a time. Fortunately, Spider-Noir will become available worldwide on Prime Video just two days after its initial release on MGM+, which should minimize any loss in viewers.

Most fans probably won’t mind waiting two days to watch Spider-Noir on Prime Video, especially since many people already have a Prime subscription for other perks. While spoilers are always a worry for Marvel shows, a two-day wait isn’t a big deal compared to having to wait weeks or months for access.

Even if fans subscribe to MGM+ to watch Spider-Noir, they’ll only need to pay for a single month. All eight episodes will be released at once, allowing them to binge-watch the series and cancel their subscription if they wish. This is different from how Marvel shows usually appear on Disney+, where episodes are released weekly over several months, meaning viewers are billed repeatedly to see the whole season.
