8 Years Later, One Piece Finally Unveils The Face of Its Main Villain

Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the One Piece manga! The Elbaph Arc in One Piece is now considered a turning point in the story. For over twenty years, fans have waited to see the Straw Hat Pirates reach the legendary land of the Giants, and that moment has finally happened. Unfortunately, Elbaph quickly becomes a battlefield with the arrival of the Holy Knights, who are acting on orders from Imu and intend to destroy the nation.

The Holy Knights didn’t want to fight Luffy, a powerful pirate leader, but his crew’s attack on the island made a confrontation unavoidable. During the battle, Imu took control of Holy Knight Gunko and caused destruction in Elbaph. The previous chapter ended with a shocking reveal: the villain was heading to Elbaph. Now, Chapter 1179 finally shows Imu’s face after eight years.

One Piece‘s Elbaph Arc Finally Reveals Imu’s Face

Imu first appeared in the story in June 2018, with chapter 906. However, initially, only a shadowy figure was shown to create mystery around this powerful world leader. The Empty Throne symbolizes the equal power shared between the 20 Allied Nations and is meant to remain unoccupied. But, very few people, even within Mariejois, know that Imu has been secretly occupying it, having existed since the ancient Void Century. The story took a surprising turn in chapter 1179 when Imu traveled down to the lower world and arrived at Elbaph. This chapter revealed Imu’s full identity: Saint Nerona Imu, the King of the World, the founder of the World Government, and a member of the original 20 Allied Nations.

Since his debut, Imu has always controlled events from afar, never needing to personally travel to the world below, not even during the dangerous God Valley Incident. He simply possessed a subordinate to handle things for him. Therefore, his sudden, personal appearance is a very bad omen, hinting at a huge disaster, especially given how incredibly powerful and enigmatic he is. As Imu is likely the story’s ultimate villain, his arrival at Elbaph marks a critical moment and a major shift in the narrative.
