Halo Studios’ Former Art Director Alleges Harassment Campaigns, Retaliation From Leadership

Glenn Israel, a former art director who worked on Halo Infinite, has publicly accused the leadership at Halo Studios of serious misconduct. In a detailed LinkedIn post, Israel claims senior staff engaged in unethical and potentially illegal behavior, including blacklisting individuals, showing strong favoritism, and deliberately harassing employees to force them to leave the company. He alleges these actions were targeted at employees they didn’t want, even if those employees were performing well.

So, I found out that a bunch of complaints about what was going on had actually been filed with Microsoft HR way back in June 2025. But instead of helping, a senior person in Employee Relations apparently threatened me, saying they’d shut down any further investigation. On top of that, some of the higher-ups at Halo Studios were accused of harassing me over four days, which ultimately led to me being fired in July 2025.

So, I’m hearing some pretty serious stuff about what’s going on over at Halo Studios. Apparently, Microsoft has been trying to sweep problems under the rug – even complaints that went all the way to their investigation team were just marked as ‘closed’ by one person in HR. It gets worse: back in August 2025, the team in Israel was pulled off a new, unannounced project and forced to work on fixing Halo: Campaign Evolved because that game’s management was a total disaster. This then led to the art director’s role being made redundant, and he’s calling it straight-up retaliation. It sounds like a really messed up situation, honestly.

Israel has raised further concerns, suggesting Microsoft may be using recent layoffs to eliminate employees who previously reported legitimate issues. They also allege that internal HR investigation teams are structured in a way that makes it difficult to determine accountability and allows the company to avoid taking responsibility.

In a recent post, Israel warned that the industry is currently facing serious problems. He strongly advised against working at this particular organization, or leaving if possible. He explained that employees aren’t valued, aren’t paid fairly, and will likely see their careers suffer or be pushed out if they don’t participate in office politics or speak up against it. He claims to have proof to support these concerns and believes the environment is unsafe for employees.

In October 2025, Israel announced on LinkedIn that he was leaving Halo Studios. He explained he was unable to share specifics about his work there just yet, but would do so when he could.

For several years, and particularly when it was known as 343 Industries while developing games like Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Studios has been dealing with leadership problems. Recent layoffs suggest that the situation was already strained within the studio.

One Halo Studios employee expressed strong frustration that an email from Phil Spencer celebrated Xbox’s record-breaking year financially while also announcing layoffs. The employee said they were confused about what they were supposed to feel positive about, given the contradictory message.

Halo Studios is currently working on Halo: Campaign Evolved on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
