Steven Spielberg has called Dune: Part Two one of his favorite science fiction movies ever made, praising it as a significant accomplishment in the genre. He recently told Empire magazine how much he appreciates Denis Villeneuve’s take on the Dune story.
Spielberg shared his enthusiasm for the Dune films, calling both installments memorable and praising the second one as a particularly impressive achievement. He explained that Dune is now among his all-time favorite science fiction movies, and he especially enjoyed the second film.
Spielberg complimented Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Dune, calling the second film his best work yet. He drew a comparison to Guillermo del Toro’s take on Frankenstein, praising Villeneuve’s vision. Spielberg also shared his excitement for the planned third Dune movie, saying he’s eager to see how the story continues and that Villeneuve will likely show it to him early, as he’s a big fan.
During a conversation on The Director’s Cut podcast earlier in 2024, Steven Spielberg told Denis Villeneuve that Dune: Part Two is a stunning visual masterpiece with incredibly well-developed characters. He went on to call it one of the best science fiction films he’s ever seen.
The director is getting ready to launch his new film, Disclosure Day, after his work on The Fabelmans. He’s also planning to release Dune: Part Three in theaters on December 18, 2026.
