Mark Consuelos Emotionally Shares Death of His Dad Saul Consuelos

Mark Consuelos is saying goodbye to the man who raised him.

Kelly and Mark’s cohost had a difficult time staying calm while announcing the death of his father, Saul Consuelos, who passed away on March 23 after a long illness.

It’s still so raw, but I remember watching Mark on TV just two weeks ago today, sharing the news about his father. He said his dad had been unwell for a while, but thankfully, he passed away peacefully. Mark seemed really moved, calling his father a truly fascinating man, and it just broke my heart right along with his.

Mark Consuelos’ wife, Kelly Ripa, said their family felt blessed to have had his father in their lives. They share three children: Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 23.

She told Mark he was lucky to have known his father his whole life. She explained that she only had 31 wonderful years with her father-in-law, and she’d miss him dearly every day, just as Mark and their children would too.

Kelly, age 55, described Saul—who moved to the U.S. from Mexico when he was a teenager—as “the greatest person I’ve ever known.” She then turned to her husband of 29 years and said, “He truly embodies all of your best qualities.”

Mark then thought about the valuable lessons and skills his father taught him over the years, like his knack for fixing things, something Kelly also noticed. Kelly also shared how close he was with his grandchildren.

She shared with viewers that she constantly reminds her children how fortunate they are to still have three grandparents. The children were deeply affected by the loss, as it was their first experience with grief.

Mark shared that he was grateful he could visit his father and say goodbye before starting rehearsals for his Broadway debut in Fallen Angels. He also said working on the play has helped take his mind off his loss.

He said he felt determined to persevere, particularly during that period. He described the experience as wonderful and enjoyable, and expressed that he felt supported by someone watching over him, who could share in his success.
