BBC One showed the four-part miniseries of Lord of the Flies in February, and now, like many of their popular shows (such as Peaky Blinders), it will soon be available on Netflix. The miniseries’ length is perfect for truly exploring the novel and its disturbing journey from civilization to chaos, as a newly formed society tragically falls apart.
What Is Lord of the Flies About?
If you didn’t read Lord of the Flies in school, it tells the story of British schoolboys who are stranded on a tropical island after a plane crash. The older boys try to create a system for survival, but disagreements arise. Ralph attempts to establish a fair and equal society, while Jack believes that only the strongest should lead. Soon, the boys divide into opposing groups, and as order breaks down, violence and savagery take over.
Many Netflix subscribers will be especially excited to learn that this new adaptation of Lord of the Flies comes from Jack Thorne, the creator of the critically acclaimed series Adolescence. Adolescence was a major award winner, sweeping the 2025 Emmys and the 2026 Golden Globes, so expectations are high for Thorne’s version of this classic story.
